Securely Lock Apps and Photos on Android with Droid Protector

Maybe your toddler accidentally bought some paid apps from the store or your sibling is always trying to peek at your phone album. You can no longer leave your precious privacy to just one lock screen that grants access to your entire smartphone.

We have seen droid apps that can lock certain apps on your Android. There are also apps that hide specific photos and videos from the default album. How about combining both features into a single application?

Guardian of the Droid

So today I am going to talk about a great android app called Droid Protector, with this app you can lock all apps on your smartphone. Not only that, you can also safely hide individual photos from your gallery if you don’t want to lock the app.

So let’s see how to use the app to increase the security of our droid.

Lock apps with Droid Protector

The app is free to install, and once you download and launch it, the first thing it will ask for is to set a new pattern or master password for the app. Once configured, you will be asked to ask a recovery question, which is advisable when your apps and photos are at stake.

Once that’s done, the app will take you to the home page where you’ll see a list of all the apps installed on your device.

Droid Protector will list some basic apps that should be locked, like the Google Play store and Phone Dialer. To lock an app, just tap the lock icon next to it. Now, when you try to open a specific app on your droid, you will be asked to enter the master password you set on Droid Protector to gain access.

So those are some of the very basic features of the app. What makes Droid Protector interesting is some of its advanced features like spy mode and fake crash for apps.

In the left pane you will find the option to enable fake shells. This feature will wake up the crash dialog when you try to open a locked app. In the free version, you can only choose one app to do this; a long press on any app in the list will enable a fake shell for that particular app.

To increase the security of the application, you can enable device administrator option from the settings menu. You can also hide app icons from your app drawer, then choose a direct dial number to launch apps directly from your phone’s dialer. There is also an option to delay the lockout period of the app. However, if you are a multi-tasking user, this timer should be set to at least a minute or two.

Conclusion

So that’s almost everything about the app. It’s free to download but comes with an option to upgrade to premium. Of course, the premium version will be ad-free, and you can also use the fake shell on as many apps as you want. Try the app and let us know if you like it.
