The Seahawks’ 43-8 victory against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII was made possible in part by this unit; it tied the third-largest margin of victory in Super Bowl history.

The next season, the Seahawks advanced to Super Bowl XLIX, where they were defeated by the New England Patriots in a close contest. The Seahawks were the first club since the 1950 Cleveland Browns to lead the league in scoring defense for four consecutive seasons between 2012 and 2015. This occurred during his tenure with the team.

Starting cornerbacks for the start of the regular season were Sherman and Jeremy Lane, according to head coach Pete Carroll. In a 27-17 victory against the New York Jets on October 2, 2016, Sherman registered five combined tackles, deflected two passes, and intercepted two passes from Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

He recorded a season-high eight combined tackles in Week 8 against the New Orleans Saints, a 25–20 loss. Sherman received a vote to the 2017 Pro Bowl on December 20, 2016.

In 2016, he had 58 total tackles (38 solo), 13 pass deflections, and 4 interceptions while starting all 16 games. In addition, he was placed 21st on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2017 by his peers.

Sherman received an overall grade of 84.6 from Pro Football Focus in 2016, placing him 13th out of all qualifying cornerbacks. In 2017, he and Jeremy Lane rejoined the Seahawks as the starting cornerbacks.

Sherman’s Achilles, which he first injured in Week 5 during a 16–10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams, caused him problems in 2017. He made an effort not to make any deep cuts throughout the next few weeks.

Sherman’s calf issue led to his placement on injured reserve on September 16, 2020. On November 28, 2020, he became operational. During the 23–20 victory in Week 12 over the Los Angeles Rams, Sherman recorded his first interception of the year on a pass from Jared Goff.

Sherman was released from the 49ers on February 17, 2021. He inked a $2.25 million, one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 29, 2021.

Due to Defensive Backs Coach Kevin Ross’s ineligibility according to COVID-19 regulations, Sherman coached the Buccaneers’ defensive backs for practice and the team’s Week 7 game against the Chicago Bears.

Sherman sustained a calf injury during pregame warm-ups before the Week 10 matchup with the Washington Football Team. As a result, he was unable to play and was placed on injured reserve three days later.

On December 10, he was made available for the team’s Week 14 matchup with the Buffalo Bills. In the Buccaneers’ 33–27 overtime victory, Sherman recorded his first interception of the year on a ball from Josh Allen.
