Maine Shooting: Police Identify Person of Interest But He is Currently On The Run – A tragic mass shooting unfolded in two separate locations within Lewiston, Maine, United States, resulting in the loss of at least 16 lives and leaving numerous others injured.
In response to this dire situation, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office released a photograph of a person considered a person of interest, and an intensive manhunt is currently in progress.
The gravity of the situation prompted the implementation of a shelter-in-place order in Lewiston, along with schools being placed on lockdown. Nearby Auburn also issued a shelter-in-place order and an additional directive for businesses to secure their premises. As a consequence of the tragedy, classes at Central Maine Community College and schools within the Lewiston Public Schools district have been canceled for October 26.
In the course of the ongoing investigation, both the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have extended their assistance to local authorities. Additionally, WMTW, a television station located in Poland, Maine, reported that the Maine State Police are scheduled to hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. (EDT).
Who is the Person of Interest in the Maine Shooting?
A person of interest has been identified by law enforcement, although this individual has not been officially designated as a suspect. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the person of interest remains at large and is considered “armed and dangerous.”
To aid in the identification and apprehension of this individual, the Sheriff’s Office has released images of the person of interest, described as a white male, as well as images of a white 2013 Subaru Outback associated with the shootings. According to a state police bulletin, the person of interest is a firearms instructor with military training and had a two-week commitment to a mental health facility in the summer of 2023. Notably, the vehicle being sought was located in Lisbon, Maine.
