Quickly Auto-Restart a Windows Process or Program that Crashes

No one has ever died in a Windows crash, so Microsoft’s jokes will never die out. But here’s a little program that won’t silence Apple fanboys, but will eliminate one of our pet annoyances (besides Apple fanboys themselves).

ReStartMe is a small application that automatically restarts any Windows program or process that crashes. There are several programs that you want to run. A crash can bring it down. Also, you may accidentally close it. So ReStartMe saves you from having to restart the program manually. For instance, I always run a torrent client. If the program crashes while I’m away, ReStartMe can get it back without my manual intervention.

ReStartMe is a service with a single purpose

The idea behind ReStartMe is very simple. Setup is even simpler. ReStartMe (version 2.0) is a 456 KB download that runs on all 32-Bit and 64-Bit versions of Windows. Once installed, you can set it up to start with Windows and run from the System Tray.

You must manually browse the EXE file of the program you want ReStartMe to monitor and add it to the list. Better still, you can start the program and add it from a dropdown that shows you all running processes.

The good thing about the program is that it can monitor multiple processes in one go. So you can make sure your important programs like download managers, torrent clients, firewalls, security apps and parental control software are added to ReStartMe so it does its job of monitoring.

The tool also gives you the option to remember all the processes you’ve added to the squad. If the processes have not started, you can set the option to start them using ReStartMe. Optionally, you can choose to wait for them to be started manually or skip them altogether.

If you don’t select the option to remember added programs, ReStartMe will start with an empty intercept the next time you launch it and you have to browse for the program’s EXE file again.

ReStartMe allows you to lock the program so that a second person cannot change the settings without your permission.

ReStartMe is similar to another program called Keep Running. However, Keep Running only works for one show. ReStartMe is not actively developed anymore, so if something goes wrong it may not be fixed. Even then, the simple and functional nature of the program will help you to use it without problems.
