For fans of iOS games, entries from major game developers (such as Nintendo or Sony) are still elusive, and any app that allows game emulation in the App Store is always there. was quickly removed by Apple.
This time, however, the smart developers at InfiniDev have created NDS4iOS, an iOS app that can be installed right from Safari, thus circumventing Apple’s strict censorship on the App Store to allow users to users to play emulated Nintendo DS games on their iOS devices. Best of all? A jailbroken iPhone or iPad is not required to make this work.
Read along to learn how to play Nintendo DS games on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.
Important Note: Since this app bypasses the certification process, it means it’s not verified by Apple, so you are solely responsible for installing this app.
Install NDS4iOS
Step 1: To get started, open Safari on your iPhone and visit this website (UPDATE: This app is no longer available). This is where you will install apps from.
Step 2: Once there, click Download button. Then, on the next page, scroll down until you get to the section of the page dedicated to ‘Unjailbroken devices’.
Step 3: There you will find a blue button used to install the application. Tap on it and accept the installation. Then go straight out of Safari and into Setting application.
Cool Tip: Remember to Install Stable version for better results.
Step 4: For the app to install successfully, you will now have to change the date on your iPhone. To do this, once in Setting knock on overviewthen on Date and time and then change Set automatically switch to TURN OFF.
Finally, change the date manually to February 18, 2014.
Step 5: After a few minutes, the NDS4iOS app will be installed on your iOS device. Once done, you can set your device’s time back to normal.
Get the game right from your iOS device
When you open the app, you will see no games to play. Thankfully, you can add them right from your iOS device. Here’s how to do it.
Important: It is illegal to download games that you do not own. So the game is responsible and only download games that you own.
Step 6: Go to the application’s settings (top left corner of the screen) and switch ABOVE the Enable Dropbox sync toggle. This will take you to the Dropbox app on your iPhone for you to allow NDS4iOS to read files from your Dropbox folder.
All that’s left now is to put the actual game ROMs in your Dropbox.
Step 7: To do that, on the main screen of the NDS4iOS app, tap the . icon + at the top right and you’ll be taken to a web page in Safari where you can download the ROM (you can always use any other site you like, of course). There, search for the game ROM you want to download and open its page.
Step 8: Scroll down until you find the download buttons. For this example, we’ll be downloading the game ROM to our Dropbox, so tap Save to container button. You will be prompted to sign in to Dropbox. Do so and then tap Rescue button.
Step 9: After a few minutes (depending on the size of the ROM file), the game ROM will be downloaded. Open Dropbox and tap on the downloaded file (usually found in a folder called ‘Storage’ or something like that) and on the next screen tap Share button.
There, select Open… then select NDS4iOS. After exporting the ROM file, it will be ready to play on NDS4iOS once you tap it.
Hot Tip: I’ve tried a few games on different iPhones, and I recommend playing them at least on iPhone 5 or later, as performance on iPhone 4S and below makes most games nearly unplayable. .
Your go. Now you have an easy way to play your Nintendo DS game backups no less on your iOS device whenever you want. Enjoy!
