Mike Johnson and his wife, Kelly Lary share four children. However, since he keeps his personal life away from the spotlight, the name, date of birth, age, and occupation of his four children are unknown to us at this time of writing.

Johnson has served as vice chair of the House Republican Conference since 2021. He previously chaired the House Republican Study Committee for one term.

The House Republican Study Committee is the largest caucus of conservatives in Congress. He also served on the coalition of socially and fiscally conservative members of the larger House Republican Conference

Before his service in Congress, Johnson served two incomplete terms in the Louisiana House of Representatives for the 8th district in Bossier Parish until he resigned to take his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

As part of the Christian right faction of the Republican Party, Johnson is known for his strong opposition to legal abortion access, medical marijuana, and same-sex marriage.

In October 2023, Mike Johnson hit major headlines after the Republicans selected him as their latest nominee for the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

With this pick, Johnson is the fourth nominee put forward after three others failed to win enough support from colleagues, and the second nominee of the day (Tuesday, 24 October).

Johnson’s nomination came a few hours after the prior nominee, Tom Emmer dropped out after failing to attract enough support. He was selected after three rounds of voting on Tuesday 24 October.

Johnson received 128 votes on the third ballot. The House has been without a Speaker and has been unable to pass bills since Kevin McCarthy was ousted on 3 October.

As of this writing, Johnson is the nominee of the House Republican Conference for Speaker of the House in the October 2023 speakership election.
