After only three weeks in Hollywood, Goddard was cast as Cully, Don Durant’s subordinate in the CBS Four Star Television series Johnny Ringo.
On the advice of his friend and mentor Chuck Connors of The Rifleman, he changed his name at this time to Mark Goddard. Goddard played Norman Tabor in the 1960 episode “Surprise Party” of the CBS anthology series The DuPont Show starring June Allyson.
He played Sheldon Hollingsworth in the 1960 episode “To See the Elephant” of the ABC Western series The Rebel, starring Nick Adams. In the 1960’s “The Mormons” episode of Dick Powell’s Zane Grey Theatre, he played Tod Rowland.
Goddard also had an appearance in the 1962 episode of The Rifleman as Marty Blair in “Mark’s Rifle.” Goddard was cast in The Detectives, another Four Star Television production, which ran on ABC and NBC from 1958 to 1961. His contract called for 64 episodes over three years.
During the Perry Mason episode “The Case of the Potted Planter” in 1963, Goddard played Roy Mooney.[Reference needed] On The Virginian, Goddard played Richard in the 1964 episode titled “The Secret of Brynmar Hall.”
He appeared as a guest actor in the Gunsmoke (S9E36) episode “Journey for Three” as a crazed killer by the name of “Boyd” in the same year.
Major Don West was Goddard’s subsequent character in Lost in Space (1965–1988). At first, West and Judy, the eldest Robinson daughter, developed a blossoming romance, but by the middle of the second season, West was still at odds with the helpless, psychopathic Dr. Zachary Smith.
Goddard and the remaining cast members promoted the Lost in Space feature picture by appearing on the inside cover of TV Guide on October 16, 1997.
Goddard, Harris, and the rest of his cast planned for Lost in Space: The Journey Home to debut on NBC in 2002, but that idea was never realized.
Goddard worked as a Hollywood agent for a period while also appearing as a guest on three ABC series: The Fugitive, The Mod Squad, and The Fall Guy.
He portrayed politician Edward Fleming in the 1976 movie Blue Sunshine. In a 1970 episode of Adam-12, Goddard co-starred alongside Kent McCord and Martin Milner as Pete Malloy’s friend, who later dies in the line of duty.
“Elegy for a Pig” was the title of the program, which Jack Webb personally declared. On The Beverly Hillbillies, Mark Goddard also portrayed Ellie May’s love interest. In the 1974 episode “Dark Legacy” of CBS’s Barnaby Jones, Goddard had a minor part.

Goddard appeared with Linda Blair and Jim Bray in the disco movie Roller Boogie in 1979. He also played Ted Clayton on One Life to Live and Lt. Paul Reed on The Doctors. Later, he appeared in General Hospital as Derek Barrington.
In the 1998 remake of Lost in Space, he made a brief cameo as the general in charge of the Jupiter Mission and Major Don West’s superior officer.
