Calm down, Wizards of the Coast. After a series of big new sets, including the excellent Fallout one, Magic The Gathering is getting another crossover with Universes Beyond: Assassin’s Creed.
While we’ve known it was coming for a while, it’s snuck up on us like a hooded figure wielding a hidden blade ahead of its July release date, and Wizards has now revealed new and returning mechanics, as well as a whole host of card spoilers.
Whether you’re here for the slick starter decks or looking to get collecting, here’s all we know about Magic The Gathering’s Universes Beyond: Assassin’s Creed set.
What is Universes Beyond: Assassin’s Creed in Magic The Gathering?

After Warhammer 40K, the Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, and Fallout crossovers, Universes Beyond has become a staple of Magic The Gathering.
These sets bring in characters and more from beloved franchises outside of the game’s base lore, and while many will see them as lesser sets, they often bring impressive reprints as well as fantastic new card designs that fit the worlds that they’re based on.
With the Assassin’s Creed set players can expect characters from across the increasingly convoluted timeline, as well as locations and items like the hidden blade.
When does Universes Beyond: Assassin’c Creed launch?

You can don your white Assassin outfit from July 5, meaning at the time of writing we’re just weeks away.
It’s worth noting that there’s no prerelease here like you’ll find from Modern Horizons 3.

New “Memory Corridor” Showcase cards highlight some of the franchise’s most iconic characters, too, like Eivor, Bayek, Haytham, and, of course, Ezio.
The set is split into Beyond Boosters and Collector Boosters, with both kinds including Scene Cards and a chance at the Borderless Memory Corridor cards.
You’ll need Collector Boosters for Extended Art, Foil Etched, and Serialized cards, however, while your local store will have the Hidden Blade card while stocks last.
Mechanics
It wouldn’t be Assassin’s Creed without parkour, and it gets its own mechanic in Magic The Gathering with Freerunning.

It’s an alternative way to pay for a spell if you dealt combat damage this turn, and should reward aggressive strategies, particularly in Commander.
As for returning mechanics, Historic is back as a descriptor, and Disguise and Cloak will let you cast cards like Bayek of Siwa face-down ready to strike.

Cloaked creature cards can be summoned from face down by paying their mana cost, while Disguised cards can pop up by paying their disguise cost.
Starter Decks
Sadly, there are no Commander precons available for the Assassin’s Creed set, but there is a new Starter Set that includes two decks that you can play right out of the box.
According to Wizards, there are 31 exclusive cards inside, including:
- 2 mythic rares
- 6 rares
- 8 uncommons
- 9 commons
- 4 basic lands with unique artwork
