Is the Diablo 4 Season 3 Battle Pass worth it? All rewards explained

It’s 2024, and every game under the sun needs a Battle Pass – including Diablo 4. With Season 3 well underway, this live service RPG from Blizzard has a fully stocked Battle Pass to go alongside it, providing all sorts of cosmetic rewards for players to unlock throughout the course of the season.

The question is, is it worth it?

All rewards in the Diablo 4 Season 3 Battle Pass

Free Battle Pass

  • 20 Smoldering Ashes
  • 5 Weapon Cosmetics
  • 1 Set of Roleplay Clothing per class
  • 1 Town Portal, Mount Trophy, and Title

Premium Battle Pass

All of the above, plus:

  • 2 Sets of Armor Cosmetics per class
  • 21 Weapon Cosmetics
  • 5 Mount Trophies
  • 3 Emblems
  • 2 Mounts and Mount Armors
  • 2 Headstones, Town Portals, and Titles
  • 1 Emote per class
  • 700 Platinum

Accelerated Battle Pass

All of the above, plus:

  • 20 Tier Skips
  • ‘The Spinning Loom’ Emote for each class

In total, there are 90 Tiers to the Diablo 4 Season 3 Battle Pass, providing the same number of rewards.

The vast majority of the rewards are cosmetic items for your characters, including either transmog costumes for your equipment, or decorations for your online profile. My favourite items are the Town Portal skins, which completely change the look of the personal portal you open when teleporting back to town.

The Smoldering Ashes are rewards that you can use to upgrade the Battle Pass in a way. You can spend them on Season Blessing XP boosts, which will level up the pass more quickly if you perform a specific action like killing demons or completing quests.

How long does it take to complete the Battle Pass?

The amount of time it takes you to complete the Diablo 4 Battle Pass will vary from player to player, but it could take you anywhere between 40 and 80 hours depending on your playstyle.

I’m yet to complete any of the Battle Passes myself as they’re a huge time commitment, but several players have chipped in with how long previous seasons took to complete. Some users on the Steam Community forums reckon it can be done in 20-40 hours, while others think a more reasonable estimate is around 40-80 hours.

The Battle Pass is progressed by collecting Favor, which is earned by simply playing the game. Completing quests, dungeons, and killing mobs will contribute in some way to progressing the pass. As a general rule of thumb, if your character is levelling up, you’re doing it right.

To level up the pass more quickly, you should look to complete as many Season Journey Objectives as possible. These are similar to the weekly challenges you see in Call of Duty, and task the player with performing specific actions in the game. Complete enough of them, and you’ll earn yourself a huge chunk of Favor.

Of course, if you want to unlock the tiers more quickly, you can purchase them all with real money – but it will cost a fair amount.

Is the Diablo 4 Battle Pass worth it?

It’s ultimately up to you to decide if the Diablo 4 Battle Pass is worth purchasing, but in my opinion, it’s not worth picking up.

There are some very nice cosmetic items included in the Battle Pass, but none of them affect gameplay. You don’t need to purchase the Battle Pass to access any of the seasonal content such as quests, items, or skills – all of these are provided for free.

If your main goal is to have a cool-looking character, then you might want to consider purchasing the pass. However, Diablo 4 has plenty of amazing-looking cosmetic items in the game for free which you can find without spending any additional money.

My best advice would be to hold off on purchasing the Battle Pass at the start of the season and see how far you get through the free version. Since you don’t earn any additional XP boosts for purchasing the pass, you’re not missing out on anything by not purchasing it when it first becomes available.

If you then get towards the end of Season 3 and find that you’ve managed to progress the Battle Pass a fair way, it might make sense to put down the money for the pass as you’ll be instantly rewarded with all the cosmetic item tiers you’ve unlocked so far.
