At BlizzCon 2023, the Overwatch team gave players a brief glimpse at two new heroes that we can expect to arrive in 2024.
While Mauga was the latest hero to be announced at the event, and was even playable in a limited-time event over the weekend, Blizzard is looking far further ahead when it comes to filling out the Overwatch 2 hero roster.
Here’s what we know about the new damage and support heroes coming to the game at some point in 2024.
Venture is the next DPS hero in Overwatch 2

The hero we saw the most of in the Overwatch 2 ‘What’s Next?’ presentation was Venture, a new Damage hero and the first playable non-binary hero in the game. They hail from Canada and have a very unique set of abilities that mostly revolve around movement.
One of their abilities lets them burrow beneath the ground, moving around in the process before bursting out and dealing damage to anyone above. It appears that Venture is invulnerable in this state, so it will be interesting to see how they are balanced in this regard.
Their second ability is a forward dash which sees their drill spin up, dealing damage to anyone caught in the firing line. Using this ability also grants Venture 50 shield hit points, which decay over the following seconds.
For their weapons, their primary fire sends out an AOE projectile that travels a specific distance before exploding. The projectile also explodes on contact, so it pays to be both accurate and diligent with your distancing here.
We’re yet to learn exactly what Venture’s ultimate ability entails – Blizzard is keeping that one under its hat for now.
As for when we can expect to see Venture in Overwatch 2, Blizzard is aiming for a Season 10 launch. Estimating based on the length of previous seasons, that would mean players should get hands-on with them in April 2024.
Meet ‘Space Ranger’, the new Support hero

‘Space Ranger’ is the second hero arriving in Overwatch 2 in 2024, but we currently know far less about them compared to Venture.
What we do know is that Space Ranger is only a code name for now, so this hero will be called something different by the time they land in the game for real.
Blizzard has teased players with some concept art for the hero, which shows them wearing a futuristic-style space suit, complete with extravagant boots and thrusters mounted to their back. We haven’t seen any of their abilities just yet, but Blizzard teases that they will be highly mobile.
It’s worth noting that while the concept art teased at Blizzcon showcases a compact SMG for Space Ranger, that’s no longer the case in the current working build of the hero. So, Space Ranger is most certainly still a work in progress for the Overwatch team.
Blizzard is aiming to launch Space Ranger in Season 12 of Overwatch 2, which using our best estimates again means we should expect to see them arrive around August 2024.
