Let’s say you’re browsing through some restricted website at your workplace, or let’s say you’re in a college dorm and someone you’re responsible for your behavior comes to you. Of course, you can close your browser with a simple click to avoid embarrassment, but that will make the person suspicious of your activity, which is not very desirable.
If you find yourself in such situation quite often while browsing on Chrome, then from next time you can use PanicButton to handle it.
PanicButton is a simple Chrome extension that hides all the tabs you are working on with a single click and opens a blank tab or any other specified tab that it has been configured to open.
The second time you click the same button, all your hidden tabs will be magically restored.
The extension saves all open tabs as bookmarks in a temporary folder and closes them instantly. The PanicButton icon will turn green, keeping the number of tabs you closed with the button.
Now you can restore all tabs by clicking the green PanicButton. You can also restore the tabs manually, but we’ll take a look at this later. PanicButton also gives you the ability to hide all tabs using keyboard shortcuts along with password protection.
One of the things about using extensions in the normal way is that the PanicButton icon is always visible and one can tell if you have hidden any tabs.
Working with PanicButton in Stealth Mode
To work on PanicButton in hidden mode you can follow these steps.
Step 1: After installing the panic button, configure your panic shortcut and hide the button from the chrome extensions area.
Step 2: Next time you want to hide all tabs, just press the panic shortcut (default is F4). By hiding the alarm button, you can eliminate the fear of being suspected by someone.
Step 3: To open all tabs just click the More Bookmarks button, right click on the temporary Panic folder and click open all tabs.
Don’t forget to delete the temporary Panic bookmarks folder when the job is finished.
my judgment
PanicButton is a useful extension for all those who want to keep their online activity to a personal level. Just use the tool in stealth mode and not in normal mode to get the most out of it. What I feel is that if you usually use Alt+F4 button to quickly close the browser and know how to use the history section to retrieve all tabs, then PanicButton will make things better and easier for you.
