Android phones have plenty of ways to stay secure, and the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ are no different. From basic lock patterns like PIN and Pattern to sophisticated mechanisms like Face Unlock and Fingerprint Unlock, Smart Lock, and more – you have plenty of options to secure your keys. your phone password.
Smart Lock on Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20+ eases the process and saves a lot of time unlocking your phone. For example, if you have set up a Bluetooth wireless headset for Smart Lock, your phone will always unlock when the device is nearby.
While this feature is useful, keeping it on all the time is not a wise decision, especially in your workplace. So, if you have Smart Lock enabled for your phone, the best thing is to tweak it to avoid any unnecessary problems. Or, you can choose to turn it off completely.
Here’s how to disable and deactivate Smart Lock on your Samsung S20 and Galaxy S20+.
How to turn off Smart Lock on Samsung S20 and S20 +
Step 1: Open Settings and go to the Lock Screen module. Here, tap on Smart Lock and you will be greeted with three options.
Step 2: Now, all you need to do is tap on the one you selected earlier, draw your pattern and turn off the switch.
However, this option has a lot of potential in my opinion. Initially, I used the Trusted Devices option to keep it unlocked. However, I soon realized that this wasn’t my best move as I always wore my Bluetooth headphones (a pair of OnePlus Bullets Wireless 2) around my neck.
And so my phone remains unlocked for the most part throughout the day. And well, you know the consequences.
I turned off this particular mode and enabled Trusted Places mode instead.
Here, I can only choose My Home Address as one of the trusted places so that my phone stays unlocked when I’m at home. And the best part is that if you have your Home Address set up in Google Maps, you don’t need to search like that.
Once done, all you need to do is lock your phone to test. Well, you can thank me later.
Turn off the smart lock temporarily
In addition to the above, if you want to disable Smart Lock temporarily, that can also be done.
Step 1: To do so, open Settings > Lock screen > Security lock settings and enter your unlock pattern. Once done, enable the Show lock options option.
Step 2: Now, open the Galaxy S20’s Quick Settings menu, tap the little Power button as shown in the screenshot below, and tap the Lock icon.
That will turn off Smart Lock, biometric unlocking options like Fingerprint Unlock and Face Unlock. Also, it won’t even show a notification on the lock screen when it’s active.
Instead, you’ll be greeted with the usual Pattern Unlock.
Once you add the template, everything will be back to normal. Cool, right?
Tweak the method of unlocking the lock screen
Having said that, the Galaxy S20 phones have a number of nifty locking mechanisms, and among them, Face Unlock is probably the fastest.
However, the phone only unlocks in the most favorable conditions. The lighting should be perfect and you shouldn’t wear sunglasses, fake mustaches, etc.
And certainly all of this gets in the way. Fortunately, there are several built-in methods that can help you get around these limitations.
Set up alternate look
As the name implies, you can set up an alternate interface. So the next time you put on your sunglasses, your phone won’t say “Do I know you?” stunt.
To do so, go to Settings > Biometrics and security, then tap Face recognition.
Next, confirm the template and tap on the second option to set up an alternate look. That’s it. Pretty simple isn’t it?
Brighten the screen
Another limitation of Face Unlock is unlocking in the dark. And believe me, if there’s not enough light, it can be quite annoying. The circle around the camera keeps going until it says “Unrecognizable”.
To avoid this situation, enable the Brighten Screen option. You’ll find it at the bottom of the Face Recognition menu.
At the same time, you can also enable the ‘Stay on Lock screen’ option. When activated, you will stay on the lock screen (unlocked), instead of going directly to the last opened app.
Smart lock
With so many customization and optimization options across the board, make sure you pick one that suits your preferences. In my case, I needed something that was not only reliable but also fast. And the combination of Smart Unlock and innovative biometrics works wonders.
Just make sure you have a reliable backup method, such as Lockdown, in place.
