How to Turn Off Auto-Playing Video Ads on Facebook

I am not against advertising and am fully aware of the importance of growing a business. However, there is a fine line between showing ads and being annoying, and Facebook crossed that line by offering autoplay video ads. But the worst part is that it’s not just limited to desktop browsers. You also have them on smartphone apps.

Facebook

Turn off original videos: If you’re looking for a way to turn off autoplay of original videos on Facebook, we’ve covered that for you too.

So today we are going to see how we can prevent these sponsored video ads from autoplaying on all devices and save our mobile 3G/LTE data. We’ll start with disabling ads on desktop browsers first and then move on to Android and iPhone.

On desktop browser

To disable ads on desktop browsers, open the Facebook home page and click the small arrow on the menu at the top to open the drop-down box.

Click here settings option to open Facebook settings. On the settings page, look for the option Video and click on it. You will now see the option to toggle video play settings here. Click On the box and change it to Off.

Stop Facebook video ads

That’s it, you won’t be bothered by auto-playing promotional videos. Some users may not see the option in their settings menu, and it could be because the feature hasn’t been enabled for them or they’re still using the old Facebook style. Consider yourself lucky for the time being, but don’t forget to turn them off when you start seeing them.

On Android devices

I’m currently using the beta version of Android and the screenshots you see in the post may be different but the procedure is still the same. Open the Facebook app on Android and tap the option Install apps on the left sidebar (right sidebar for beta users).

Install Facebook appVideo autoplay

Here find the option Video autoplay and turn it off. If you want to play video over Wi-Fi and restrict it to data connection only, select Only wifi.

You may have to shut down the app once to see the changes take effect.

On iOS devices

Unfortunately, there is currently no way that you can permanently disable these auto-playing video ads on your iOS device. However, we can disable them from playing when we are on a data connection and limit them only to the Wi-Fi network.

Open your iOS settings and navigate to Facebook settings. Here you will find a list of apps that have permission to access Facebook on your device. click again settings option to see options Autoplay on Wi-Fi just under Video and turn it on.

Conclusion

So that’s how you can disable Facebook’s annoying spontaneous video ads on all platforms. Speaking of battery life, it will hardly make a difference. But you save bandwidth. And rest assured? priceless.
