Spotify is an interesting subscription-based music streaming service, but it’s not the only one. While Spotify has an extensive song collection and growing podcast list, others like Tidal are trying to set themselves apart by offering original content, music videos, and special features about music.
I signed up for a trial account and started transferring my playlists from Spotify to Tidal for testing.
There’s no need to create new playlists as you simply transfer them from one service to another. Let’s see how you can also transfer playlists and what is the best web and mobile app to do it.
Let’s get started.
1. Seal
You can transfer not only playlists but also radio stations from Spotify to Tidal using Stamp. This application is available on many platforms such as Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. You will be asked to choose your source when you launch the app for the first time. Select Spotify from the list and sign in. Choose Tidal as your destination now.
You can now select the playlist you want to transfer from Spotify to Tidal. Tap Get Started when done.
The free version will only transfer ten songs from any playlist you choose. The pro version will set you back $14.99 for all platforms.
2. Tune in to my music
Tune My Music is a free to use web app that supports many music streaming apps. Open the homepage and click the Let’s Start button.
First, you’ll choose Spotify as your Source. Log in and provide the necessary permissions.
In this step, you can enter playlist URLs or select them manually. To do the latter, click on the second option.
You can choose as many playlists as you want. I will go with only one. Click Select destination when done.
Select Tidal as your destination in the next screen.
You will see a summary now. Click Show List to manage the songs in the playlist that you want to include in Tidal. When done, click the Start Migrate My Music button.
You should now see your Spotify playlist in Tidal.
3. Sound
Tidal is owned by Jay Z, who has partnered with Soundiiz to help fans move their playlists from Spotify to Tidal. It looks like Tidal is hoping to gain more market share with this move. Either way, click the link below to open the page dedicated to transferring playlists from Spotify to Tidal and then click Get Started Now.
Sign in with your social media accounts here. That purple background looks terrible, but the service doesn’t!
Select Transfer in the right sidebar and select Playlists.
Select Spotify as your source in the next screen.
Now you will select the playlist that you want to transfer from Spotify to Tidal. Click Confirm and continue when done.
Soundiiz will let you choose a new playlist name, description, and remove duplicates in this step. Click Save Configuration.
You can also deselect any songs that you don’t want in your Tidal playlist. Click Confirm Watchlist when done.
Now choose Tidal as your destination and log in.
The transfer will begin now.
You will get a typical error after the transfer. Basically, that error means that songs selected from a Spotify playlist are not available on Tidal.
Soundiiz is free to use. If you pay $3/month, you can sync your playlists across multiple music streaming sites, transfer playlists containing more than 200 songs at a time, and also transfer additional data like favorites, descriptions, etc.
4. Switch songs
SongShift is an iOS-only app and works well for those who are part of the Apple product ecosystem. Download and install it using the link below. Launch it and tap the ‘+’ icon for Power Setup.
On the next screen, tap Connect Music Services to add Spotify.
You can now Set Up Source and select the Spotify playlist you want to transfer to Tidal.
Select a playlist, then go ahead and Set Destination as Tidal.
Repeat the same process to sign and grant the necessary permissions to Tidal. You can now choose to create a new playlist or merge with an existing playlist. Tap I’m done when finished.
If you want to add more than two music streaming services, you will need the professional version which costs $3.99.
Tide detection
Depending on the operating system or device you’re using, transferring playlists from Spotify to Tidal is pretty straightforward and easy. It will only take a few minutes before you’re up and ready to test drive the Tidal. While I don’t find the sound quality any better than others, it does have some excellent original content.
