How to Transfer Contacts, SMS from iPhone to Android for Free

This weekend, my wife decided to switch from iOS to Android as she was fed up with the poor battery life and poor performance of her iPhone 5 following the recent iOS 9.2 update. Now we all know that switching in the same ecosystem is a walk in the park and you can get all the data from your old phone to your new phone with one click. . Thanks to Apple, we have a dedicated app that helps users switch from Android to iOS and not vice versa.

Next thing you know, I was tasked with migrating all the data from her iOS to Android before she left for work in the morning while she was busy reading Quora on my Nexus 6P. Now, there are apps that can get you moving, but most of them don’t work while others ask you to pay a lot of money.

Now, I’m not in the mood to pay a dime for it and then start figuring out how to use free software to get around. Also, there are no paid apps that transfer WhatsApp data, which is one of the most important data that needs to be transferred.

Anyway, it took me a while but I was able to successfully transfer her contacts, messages, media (photos and videos) and WhatsApp data from her iOS to the new Android and this article is my way to go. provides you with detailed documentation of the steps involved. Now the point is, I’m going to split it into 3 parts to make it more organized and lots of stuff to do.

Transfer Contacts from iOS to Android

This is probably the most important data that needs to be transferred, and also the easiest one. Now I’m considering that you have an iCloud account for iOS and a Google account for Android that you use to sync your contacts. Once you’ve figured that out, just follow these steps.

Step 1: Sign in to your iCloud home page from your computer and navigate to Contacts section. I recommend using Firefox and Chrome gives some problems with the iCloud homepage.

Step 2: Press Ctrl+A on your keyboard to highlight all the contacts in your iCloud account and then click the search gear Setting icon. Here, click on the export button and wait for the download dialog to appear.

Step 3: Save the VCF Contact card to your desktop and that’s all from the iCloud backend. Sign out of iCloud and sign in to Google Contacts with your main Android account.
