Coming up with unique passwords that you can remember is a rather daunting task in itself. Then it’s a matter of keeping the passwords somewhere safe when you can’t remember them. Given the number of apps and services we use, it’s not uncommon to have over 100 different passwords.
You can create a template that contains a base prefix in the first half of your password and something related to an app or service in the second half. But one day you might even forget that. How to manage this? And more importantly, sync this between your PC and connected mobile devices securely and without much fuss.
A simple answer exists. It’s called LastPass, and it’s something I’ve personally used for the past few years. But syncing LastPass with a mobile device requires a premium subscription. Additionally, LastPass stores your passwords in its own cloud. Out of reach of your guard.
An alternative is KeePass. An amazingly secure free and open source platform with tons of plugins and apps for every platform imaginable.
Let me tell you how you can manage your passwords on your PC with the KeePass 2.0 app and sync it with Android.

KeePass is a great free and open source utility. There are a lot of things it does well and a lot of things it doesn’t. This guide will focus on what it does better than the free LastPass. It syncs passwords from PC to Android and even lets you autofill them in any modern Android browser. To do so with LastPass, you need a premium account.

If you’re using LastPass, it’s pretty easy to import your LastPass password into KeePass. Just create a new database, assign a strong primary key you’ll never forget, and follow the instructions linked above.
Side note: Make sure you’re using the KeePass 2.x app with the extension .kbdx for database files as it works for all platforms including Android and iOS. KeePass 1.0 only supports Windows natively.
Store database files in Dropbox
The most important part is making sure all your latest passwords are available on all your devices. Yes, by using Dropbox you are saving the file in the “Cloud” but if the file is protected with a strong and unique key you will not be better or worse off saving the file locally.
Apps for Android
On Android, there are several apps that support KeePass 2.0 database files. The most popular is KeePassDroid. But we will use Keepass2Android because it allows you to import the database file directly from Dropbox and is generally easy to use.
Launch the app and tap Open file button. There are many options here. You can import database files that you copied to local storage or import from cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive.
Once you locate your database file, open it up and enter your primary key. All passwords stored in that database file are now available to use on your Android phone. You can copy any password to clipboard easily.
Password AutoFill in Android Browser
The Keepass2Android app allows you to look up any password and copy it to the clipboard but if you want the same autofill feature from desktop browsers, you need to do a few things. job. But it is possible.
