How To Share Music You Are Playing On Rhythmbox On Twitter

Editor’s Note: This is the first article on Linux on Guiding Tech. It’s about Rhythmbox, a music player for Linux distributions like Ubuntu, and how you can share music from it on Twitter. We plan to have more Linux/Ubuntu articles in the future.

By default, Rhythmbox on Ubuntu does not allow you to post what is playing on your computer to social networks. The Microblogger plugin for Rhythmbox just adds that feature – once you install it, you can instantly publish what’s playing on Rhythmbox to Twitter or Identica.

This tutorial will show you how to install the plugin for Rhythmbox on Ubuntu. Using the terminal for this will take less time, but it can be daunting for some of us – so we’ll do it the GUI way.

First, open your home directory by going to Places > Home

Hfolder

Press Ctrl + L for the location bar to appear.

Type ~/.gnome2 or /home/username/.gnome2 where username should be your actual Ubuntu username. Press Enter.

Road

Create a new folder named rhythm and open it. Create another folder called plugins inside the rhythmbox folder you just created.

Download the Rhythmbox Microblogger plugin from here and extract the files in that archive into the plugins folder. It will look like this:

You can even edit your tweet before hitting the Submit button. It’s quite a lot. If you have questions, ask them in the comments section.
