How to Share Google One Storage Plan With Family on Mobile and Desktop

Google One is a built-in cloud storage plan that you can subscribe to to store your data. You get 15GB of cloud storage on your Google account. However, you can upgrade to Google One with up to 2TB of cloud storage if needed.

The good thing is that your family members don’t have to sign up for Google One individually. You can share Google Drive storage from your account with family members. We’ll cover the steps to share a Google One storage plan with your family on mobile and desktop.

Add family members to Google One using desktop

See the steps to share Google One cloud storage with your family. You can add 5 members of your family even with the basic tier 100 GB plan of Google One. Also, make sure they are over 13 years old.

Here’s how to use this feature and share your cloud storage.

Step 1: Visit the Google One website in a web browser on your computer.

Step 2: Sign in with your Google account.

Step 3: Scroll down and click View details in Storage and more.

Step 4: Click ‘Go to Family Settings’ on the right.

Step 5: Click the Manage button next to Manage Family Settings.

Step 6: Select ‘Create a family group.’

Step 7: Tap the Confirm button to designate you as the Family Manager.

Step 8: Enter the names or email addresses of your family members and click Submit.

Your family members will receive an invitation to share Google One storage in the cloud. They have 15 days to respond to the invitation.

After they accept the invitation, you’ll see their name appear in the list of family members in your Google account.

Step 9: Go back and click the toggle next to “Share Google One with Family” to enable the feature.

To turn off Google One Family Sharing, click the toggle to turn it off again.

How to remove a Family Member from a Google Account

Sometimes, some family members end up putting too much data on your shared Google One storage and may not use those files. You can remove such inactive members. If you want to remove a family member to prevent sharing your Google One account, here’s how.

Step 1: Open the Google Account page in a web browser.

Step 2: Click People & Share from the left sidebar.

Step 3: Select ‘Manage your family group.’

Step 4: Click on the name of the family member you want to remove.

Step 5: Click the Remove member button.

Step 6: Sign back in to your Google account and click Delete again to confirm.

Add a family member to Google One using a mobile device

If you’re using the official Google One app on your iPhone or Android, here’s how to share your storage with family members.

Step 1: Open the Google One app on your iPhone or Android.

Step 2: Tap the hamburger menu icon in the top left corner.

Step 3: Select Settings.

Step 4: Select Family settings.

Step 5: Turn on the switch next to “Share Google One with family”.

Step 6: Tap ‘Manage Google family members.’

Step 7: Click Send invitation.

Step 8: Enter your family member’s name or email address and click Submit.

Your family members will now receive notifications about your invitation to share Google One storage in the cloud. They have 15 days to respond to the invitation.

Once they’ve responded, you’ll see their name added to the list of family members in your Google account.
