Once downloaded, follow the on-screen instructions and Instagram will take you to the authenticator app.
Step 5: Copy the code from the authenticator app and paste it into the Instagram app. Once verified, you’ll see a screen that says ‘Two-factor authentication is on’. Finally, click Done.
Now, every time you log into your Instagram account from a new device, it will ask you to enter a verification code in addition to your login password.

Step 1: Open Settings on Instagram and go to Security > Two-Factor Authentication.
Step 2: Under ‘Choose your security method’, turn on the switch next to Text Messages.

How to login with recovery code
While two-factor authentication is a great way to secure your account, there may be cases where you may not be able to receive a code through your authenticator app for one reason or another. To fix that, Instagram also gives you five Recovery Codes that you can use to sign in to your Instagram account. However, each of these codes can only be used once.
You can record or screenshot these codes by going to Settings > Security > Two-Factor Authentication > Additional Methods > Backup Codes.
Also, if you end up using all of these Recovery codes, you can always request new ones from here.
How to enable or disable login requirements on Instagram
After you enable two-factor authentication on Instagram, it will also enable the Require Login feature by default. This feature will send an alert whenever someone tries to log in to your Instagram account with one of the Backup Codes. Here is how it works.
When someone tries to sign in, you’ll get a notification in the Activity tab. From there, you can choose to approve or deny the login request.
The Sign In feature adds an extra layer of security in case someone gets access to your Recovery Code.
If you don’t want to be notified of such login requests, you can easily turn off the feature from the Instagram app. This is the way.
Go to Settings on your Instagram app. Now go to Security > Two-Factor Authentication > Additional Methods. Turn off the Require sign-in option.
And that’s about it. Instagram will no longer notify you of any new login requests. Also, you can enable this feature anytime you want.
Double safety
Well, those are all ways that you can set up two-factor authentication on Instagram. Having that extra level of security adds to the comfort. Apart from Instagram, you can also enable two-factor authentication for other apps like WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
