How to Save & Recover Web Form Data in Firefox With Lazarus

Has it happened that you were filling out a web form or entering something on a web page and suddenly Firefox crashed or the tab was accidentally closed? Not uncommon, yes. And very angry.

Yes, there is a solution. Firefox comes with a nice addon called Lazarus: Form Recovery which saves your web form data in real time and makes it available to you whenever you need it. Let’s see the addon in action.

Let’s say you’re updating something on Twitter and suddenly your browser crashes. Now, next time you open your browser again, it will reload Twitter.com (if it is set to save all pages) but you will not find the update you wrote in the status message.

In such cases, this addon will work. Right click on the space provided inside the box and you will get two options in the context menu. They are – text recovery And Recovery form (disabled in screenshot). When you choose the first option, you will get the text you filled in last time as your Twitter status. Just click on it to reappear as a Twitter status.

One great thing about this addon is that it also gives you text results that you have previously entered on the website. That means if you go to Facebook.com and right-click on the status box, you can restore the previous status messages you entered.

Option Lazarus

In Firefox, go to Tools->Add-ons. Click the “Extensions” tab. Now click on Lazarus options button.

Go Protect navigation. Here, you can select the checkbox next to “Save Password” to save all passwords entered by you on any website. But it is not recommended by addon developers because anyone who can access your computer, can also access those passwords.

You can choose how long saved forms remain in the database. After this time it will be automatically deleted. Saved forms should be deleted after 1 week or more.

You can also choose a password to restore the form. This option will be useful if you are choosing the first option i.e. Save Password. No one can access any data without entering the master password.

Is your data safe?

All data you enter into the website is logged by this addon. It saves data locally on your PC. It also encrypts it with 2048-bit RSA and 256-bit AES hybrid encryption. Additionally, you can set a password if you share your user account with someone else so that person can’t access the web form data.
