Firefox has always had good bookmark management features. Bookmarks Manager (Gallery) has features like Export Bookmarks to HTML. You can easily make periodic copies of your bookmarks and keep them as backups. Syncing them with online bookmarking tools like Xmarks also helps preserve your bookmarks for posterity.
Firefox 13 has added another feature to your bookmarks toolbar to give you more control if you think you’ve mistakenly deleted a bookmark. Now you can easily restore your bookmarks by date. Firefox will now automatically back up and keep a copy of your bookmarks going back ten days from the current date. Click Bookmarks – Show all bookmarks.
The Library window gives you Import and backup menu. The drop-down menu shows Support features and new ones Restore function.
So let’s say you lost your bookmarks the other day. You can jump a day earlier to get back and restore lost bookmarks. You can even go day-by-day into the past (but no more than 10 days) to restore bookmarks in Firefox. Selecting a specific date backs up the entire set of bookmarks with an exact copy of the bookmarks that were automatically bookmarked by Firefox on that date. Click OK to revert your bookmarks to the old one.
Bookmarks are backed up using the JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) file format, which is a lightweight data interchange format. The Restore function gives you the option to actually go back in time and pick a date from the last ten days. All Firefox bookmarks (including last 10 copies) are stored in the Application Data folder of your profile as you can see from the screen below (Win XP screenshot). You can also backup and restore manually from the same menu.
