With iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, Apple makes it really easy for iOS and Mac to communicate with each other. If you’re on the same network, you can answer phone calls or texts from your Mac, start working with email on your iPhone and continue on your Mac, etc.

One of the new features and one that hasn’t been widely announced is the new iOS screen recording feature.

To do this, you need: iPhone/iPad running iOS 8, Mac running OS X 10.10 Yosemite, and a lightning cable.

How to record your screen with Quicktime Player

Grab your iOS device and connect it to your Mac using a lightning cable. Now launch Quicktime Player on your Mac.

From Documentselect New Screen Recorder or use handy Control + Cmd + FEMALE shortcut.

alternative choice

Apple’s screen recording solution is pretty basic, but for most people it should be enough. What if connecting a cable to your Mac and using Quicktime is too time consuming for you? See options below.

reflex

Reflector is an application that uses the AirPlay feature of Mac and iOS to wirelessly share the screen of an iOS device with a Mac. I can’t believe the Mac doesn’t provide this functionality by default. As useful as Reflector is, it’s not free. The comfort of wireless recording will cost you $9.99.
