Turning off the desktop screen is simple – just press a button. But not if it’s a laptop. Yes, Windows will turn it off if you leave it idle for a while, but that’s not what we’re talking about here. We want to turn it off quickly, with a single click. How do we do that?
There are many third-party utilities that can help you turn off your laptop screen instantly. We will discuss one of them here. It’s called Dark – Screen Off. It’s a free software.
Following are the steps to install and use this software.
1. Download the software from its website.
2. Extract the file with a tool like ZipGenius and run the installation file.
3. Select the options and proceed with the installation.
4. The tool requires the .NET framework to run. If you don’t have it installed, it will ask you to do it. Once done, you can continue with the installation.
5. Once the installation is complete, you will find a Dark.exe icon on your desktop, like the one shown below. You need to double-click it to bring the tool to the system tray (or notification area).
6. You will see the icon show up in the system tray. That’s it, now you can double click it to turn off the laptop screen. The screen will come back on if you move the mouse or press a key, which usually happens when Windows turns off the screen.
7. You can also right-click that icon and set it to automatically start with Windows.
