How to Modify Activity Goals on Apple Watch

The Apple Watch is one of the best fitness trackers and smartwatches out there. It measures your daily activity, steps, and standing hours, and Activity Goal tracks your daily movements and activities. The rings visually represent how active you are throughout the day and motivate you to close them before bed. However, if you’re not satisfied with the default numbers for ringing activity, the good news is that you can modify your Apple Watch activity goal.

Naturally, this gives you the flexibility to add numbers according to your comfort and body type. And once done, you can strive to reach the goals and close the rounds.

In this post, we’ll discuss how to modify the activity goal on Apple Watch.

How to Modify Activity Goals on Apple Watch

With the new Apple Watch, modifying the target on the Apple Watch is easy. You don’t need to go to the Watch or Health apps on your phone and modify them from your Apple Watch. This is the way.

Step 1: Press the Watch’s crown until you see the apps screen.

Search for Activity and tap it.

This will open your recent activities— Move, Exercise, and Stand.

Move: It represents the amount of active calories you burned in a day by moving around, whether it’s walking, standing, exercising, etc.

Standing: It is the number of hours you have stood. If you stand for one minute every hour, you can close the Stand ring.

Exercise: It represents the number of minutes you have spent exercising.

Step 2: Scroll down on this page until you see the Change goal option. Next, tap the Plus (or Minus) button of the Move target to modify it to your liking.

Press the Next button when done.

Step 3: Then, swipe left and repeat Step 2 for the Exercise and Stand goals, then press the OK button.

For our Apple Watch, we changed the Move goal to 600 calories, the Exercise goal to 60 minutes, and the Standing goal to 10 hours. While we may not hit our daily goals, the good old round of activity helps me stay motivated.

Note: If you update your goal after you’ve closed the rounds for the day, the rounds will reset and show as incomplete. Therefore, the ideal time to modify the Activity goal is after 12 a.m. or early in the morning. This will give you enough time to close your rounds.

How to see activity rings on your iPhone

As noted earlier, Activity Loop on your Apple Watch is the main driver of your staying power. The good thing is that you can have Activity rings on your iPhone home screen. Like above, the process is simple and easy.

Step 1: Long press on the iPhone home screen and tap the Plus icon in the top left corner.

Step 2: On the widget page, search for Fitness or Activity in the Search box as shown below.

This will show all available widgets. Currently, you can choose from 2 sizes.

Step 3: Select one of the sizes and tap on the Add Widget button to add it to the home screen.

In my case I selected the bottom part of the screen. After a few seconds, the ring on your phone will sync with the ring on your Apple Watch. To see all the details, tap the rings.

And like any other widget, you’ll be able to move it to a location of your choice on your iPhone.

Share your activity with your friends and family

So if you’ve cut those rounds, complete the workouts and try new exercise routines. Would it be fun to share this news with your friends to motivate them and vice versa? That’s right, Apple Watch lets you share these stats with your friends. Moreover, your friend can also know when you start and finish the exercise. Cool, right?

Step 1: Tap the Watch Activity ring to open it, and then swipe left.

This will take you to the Share screen.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap the Invite Friends button. Select a contact from the list. The good news is that the Watch also shows some compatible contacts in the Recommendations section.

After your friend accepts the invitation, you can follow each other’s progress through this screen. The good thing is that you can share your activity with many friends.

If you’re not comfortable with Watch-based invitations, you can also use the Fitness app on your phone. Check out this post to see how.

And that’s not all. You can also participate in healthy competition with your friends. However, to do this, you will need the Fitness app.

Once the installation is complete, open the app and tap on the Share tab, as shown below. Here you will see all your added contacts.

Tap one of the contacts. Scroll down and hit the ‘Compet with’ button. Simple, see?

Now, all that remains is to close all the rounds and win the contest in a healthy way.

Let’s begin!

Here’s how you can modify your activity goals on Apple Watch. Perhaps the best part about this smartwatch is that you can manually add exercise minutes and calories burned to the app. This happens if you forget to wear the Watch on some days.

So will you increase your goal or decrease your goal?
