Samsung Internet Browser is one of the best alternatives to Chrome on Android, solving many ongoing usability problems in Google’s flagship browser. It has a sophisticatedly designed user interface that greatly improves navigation, a nifty night mode that works surprisingly well, and a built-in content blocker to get rid of annoying ads. complex.
However, giving up on Google Chrome isn’t easy, especially with all the bookmarks and other browsing data it accumulates over time — all for the purpose of providing a great search experience. and personalized browsing. Thankfully, Samsung developers have provided a solution to at least partially solve the migration problem with the Samsung Internet Chrome Extension.
Preparing to import
If you’ve been using Chrome Sync to access your bookmarks on your PC or Mac, you’re all set and ready to go. But if not, then you need to sign in to Chrome on desktop with your Google Account, and then sync your bookmarks with that account first. To do that, simply sign in to Chrome with your Google Account credentials and your bookmarks will sync in no time.
If you’ve used Chrome Sync to access your bookmarks on your PC or Mac, you’re good to go.
If you’re signed in to a desktop that you share with others, be sure to create a separate Chrome profile to avoid merging your browsing data with other people’s data. Click the profile icon in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window, then click Manage People to add a new profile.
Note:
In addition, you also need a Samsung Account. Because your bookmarks are imported via Samsung Cloud, you must have one to sign in to both the Samsung Internet Chrome Extension and the Samsung Internet Browser.
If you use a Samsung smartphone, it is likely that you already have a Samsung Account. If not, create an account — it’s free.
Import Chrome Bookmarks
Have you synced your bookmarks with Chrome on the desktop? Have you created a Samsung Account? If so, you’re ready to start importing your Chrome bookmarks into the Samsung Internet Browser. Follow the steps below and it will be done in no time.
Step 1: On your desktop, use Chrome to access the Samsung Internet extensions page on the Chrome Web Store.
Step 2: Add Samsung Internet extension to Google Chrome.
Step 3: Click on the Samsung Internet extension icon (it looks a bit like a flying saucer) next to the address bar, then click Sign In to sign in to your Samsung Account.
Step 4: Once you are signed in, click on the option labeled Use your Chrome Bookmarks in Samsung Internet.
Step 5: Wait a moment while the extension uploads your bookmarks to Samsung Cloud.
Step 6: Activate Samsung Internet Browser on your Android smartphone. Tap the Vertical ellipsis (three dots) icon in the upper-right corner of the browser, then tap Settings.
Step 7: On the Internet Settings panel, tap the option labeled Samsung Cloud.
Note:
On the next screen, tap Sync Now.
Step 8: Go back, tap Bookmarks and you’ll find your Chrome bookmarks listed in a separate folder. Tap it and you can see your bookmarks further categorized into sections labeled Bookmarks Bar, Other Bookmarks, and Mobile Bookmarks — retaining the original Chrome Bookmark Manager structure .
Step 9: Samsung Internet Extension does not sync your Chrome bookmarks with Samsung Internet Browser in real time. You need to actively click the Import button next to Chrome Bookmarks whenever you want to transfer an updated copy of a bookmark to your mobile phone.
Finished! You have successfully imported your Chrome bookmarks into the Samsung Internet Browser.
Move Chrome Bookmarks
Samsung’s Internet browser imports your Chrome bookmarks into a separate folder, but that doesn’t mean you have to keep it that way. Tap the vertical ellipsis icon in the upper-right corner of Bookmarks Manager, tap Edit to select folders, then tap Move to take them to any other folder or location.
The same can be done for individual bookmarks. Make sure to take a moment to categorize your bookmarks so you don’t have to dig into Chrome’s Bookmarks folder endlessly.
Sync Bookmarks
The Samsung Internet Extension also doubles as a direct portal to your bookmarks stored in the Samsung Internet Browser itself. Click the gear-shaped Settings icon after clicking the extension, then click Sync Samsung Bookmarks.
Then you should see your Samsung Internet Browser bookmarks listed under Samsung Bookmarks section. Pretty cool, isn’t it? Remember that they won’t be added to Chrome’s Bookmarks Manager — you can only access them via an extension.
You also need to actively click Sync Samsung Bookmarks whenever you want to update your bookmarks—this happens automatically, but not as often as you’d like.
Keep in sync
So that’s how you should import your Chrome bookmarks into the Samsung Internet Browser. Very convenient, especially since you can seamlessly import newer Chrome bookmarks without much effort. And the ability to seamlessly check your Samsung Internet Browser bookmarks on Chrome itself also serves as a nice touch.
Finally, don’t miss the many other possibilities that the Samsung Internet extension has to offer. For example, what if you use another browser like Firefox? The solution — sync your bookmarks with Firefox on the desktop via Firefox Sync, export them to an HTML file, import them into Chrome, then import them into the Samsung Internet Browser.
