How to Fix Houseparty Not Syncing or Connecting to Contacts

There’s no shortage of video calling apps right now, and Houseparty has made a name for itself among the top. Presumably, Fortnite maker Epic Games’ purchase of Houseparty promoted it. However, I think integrating a feature that allows people to play games with friends in real time during video calls could be what makes the difference. While it’s a cool feature, the only problem is that you need to allow the Houseparty app to access your contacts. And some users complain that the Houseparty app doesn’t sync or even connect to contacts.

Fix houseparty not syncing or connecting to contacts

That’s why I researched Houseparty on my system and found some effective solutions that let you get back to calling and playing games with your friends in no time.

Let’s get started.

1. Run the application again

Maybe it’s a bug specific to some system or setup. So you should close the app then launch it again to check if you can see the contacts afterwards. Create a new room and check if you can add contacts to play games with your friends. If not, continue with other solutions.

2. Check the connection

These are the basics that need to be considered. It shouldn’t take much time. If your contacts are synced but don’t work or you can’t connect and invite, check your Wi-Fi connection or try using mobile Internet. Video calls can consume a lot of bandwidth, so I recommend against using mobile data. Check your mobile data status; maybe you run out of data and don’t realize it. Finally, check Downdetector to make sure the site isn’t down. It happened before.

3. Permissions and Access

Houseparty needs a lot of permissions on the phone to work properly. Unless you allow it to access your contacts, you won’t see your friends on it and can’t invite them to your party.

Here are the steps for Android users to assign appropriate permissions. Open Settings and go to Apps > Manage Applications then search for and open the Houseparty app here. The location may be a little different for you depending on the make and model of your smartphone. Tap on App Permissions and make sure Contacts is allowed here along with other options like microphone for audio and camera for video.

Here are the steps for iPhone and iPad users. Open Settings and tap Houseparty. Make sure the Contacts permission is enabled here. Can’t see the option yet?

Open the Houseparty app and tap the ‘+’ icon to select Connect Contacts then Allow in the subsequent pop-up. You can then tap Add new friend to start adding friends in your phone book. They should sync now.

4. Contacts and Facebook to sync contacts

Your smartphone contacts aren’t the only way to add and sync contacts on Houseparty. You can also add friends from your Facebook account. If you created a Houseparty account with your Facebook account, you should already see your contacts. If not, try syncing your contacts.

And if you used email ID to sign in and can’t sync contacts or add them, add your social network (Facebook) account to sync contacts. Either option should work otherwise you need to double check access.

5. An abandoned friend

What happens here is that you invite six friends into your room and only five of them join. That friend can’t join the group or can’t play the game after joining the group. It’s a bug and hopefully upcoming app updates will take care of it.

You can now resend invitations. If that doesn’t work, create a new room and send a new invite to everyone. Well, it sounds tedious but is the only option at the moment.

If it’s a contact sync issue, remove your friends and then re-add them.

To unfriend someone on Houseparty, tap My Friends, then on the three-dot menu next to the person’s name and select Unfriend.

You can then re-add your friends from your contacts, the same way you did before, and that should fix the problem.

None of my friends joined Houseparty because they were all busy playing PUBG and Call of Duty Mobile, so I attached a video above for you.

Housewarming

Take out your party hat and get ready to play with your friends and family members. The pandemic is raging, and by the looks of it, I don’t think it will end anytime soon. Use this time to practice new skill sets, work out at home, learn to cook or try that new dance move, and use Houseparty to play mundane but super fun games with everyone. you know.

I hope contacts are currently synced on Houseparty and friends can connect on the app. If you find another way to solve this error, do share it with us in the comments section below.
