Thanks to Chrome’s sync feature, all your information like history, passwords, bookmarks and other details is available across devices. Be it on a Windows PC, an Android phone, an iPhone, or even a Mac. That makes it easy to access these without a rooted device.
For example, if you save a bookmark on your PC and you want to access it on your Android phone, it will automatically appear in Bookmarks if sync is enabled. No manual work is needed.
However, this feature sometimes does not work as expected. That is if you save a bookmark on your PC, it won’t reflect on other devices or vice versa. Do not worry; It’s nothing serious.
Just follow the fixes mentioned below to solve the bookmarks not syncing issue on Chrome.
- 1 1. Restart the device
- 2 2. Verify Sync is On
- 3 3. Force Chrome Bookmarks Sync
- 4 4. Turn Sync Off Completely
- 5 5. Sign out of Chrome
- 6 6. Clear cache and cookies
- 7 7. Verify device sync is enabled on Android
- 8 8. Check your anti-virus software
- 9 9. Disable Extensions
- 10 10. Chrome Update

1. Restart the device
If the synced bookmarks don’t reflect on your device, restart the problematic device. Alternatively, restart the original device on which you saved the bookmark.
2. Verify Sync is On
When you sign in to Chrome, it syncs all your data. Sometimes syncing for bookmarks is off and that’s why you don’t see your bookmarks appear on your other connected devices. To verify it’s on, follow these steps:
computer
Step 1: In Chrome, click on the three-dot icon in the upper right corner and select Settings from there. Alternatively, type chrome://settings/ in the address bar and press Enter.
Step 2: Make sure you have the words ‘Off’ next to your name. That indicates sync is on. If it says On, sync is off and you need to enable it.
We are not done yet. Click ‘Sync and Google services.’
Step 3: Click on Manage sync. On the next screen, make sure the toggle next to Sync Everything is turned on. In case it’s off, check if the Bookmarks toggle is enabled. Enabling the Bookmarks feature will sync it to all devices.
Mobile application
Step 1: Tap the three-dot icon in the Chrome app. On Android it’s now at the top, and in iOS you’ll find it at the bottom. Select Settings from the menu.
Step 2: Tap your name at the top.
Step 3: Tap Sync. On the next screen, verify that Sync Everything is enabled. If this feature is off, make sure Bookmarks sync is enabled.
3. Force Chrome Bookmarks Sync
Sometimes disabling bookmark sync resets the problem. To do so, repeat the steps mentioned above for both PC and mobile app. However, in the final step, turn off the switch next to Bookmarks. Wait a while, then turn it on. Doing so will force the browser to re-sync the bookmarks.
Tip:
4. Turn Sync Off Completely
If re-syncing bookmarks doesn’t work, try disabling sync entirely. Here’s what you need to do to turn off sync.
computer
Step 1: Go to Chrome Settings by clicking on the three dots icon.
Step 2: Click Turn off gifts next to your name.
Step 3: Close Chrome and then repeat the steps. Now turn on sync.
Mobile application
Step 1: Open Chrome Settings by tapping the three-dot icon.
Step 2: In Settings, tap your name at the top followed by Sync on the next screen.
Step 3: Turn off the toggle that appears next to Sync and tap Done.
Step 4: Close Chrome by removing it from the recent apps list. Then open it again and repeat the steps to enable sync.
5. Sign out of Chrome
Another thing that can help is to sign out of Chrome on all devices. Here’s how to sign out:
computer
Step 1: Click on your profile picture currently at the top and select Manage people from that photo.
Step 2: On the next screen, hover over your name and click on the three dots icon. Select Remove this person.
Mobile application
Step 1: Open Settings by tapping the three-dot icon in the Chrome app. Then tap your name.
Step 2: Click Sign out of Chrome. Then log back in. Some users experience an issue that keeps them logged out of Chrome. Try these fixes for that.
All browsers, including Google Chrome, provide a built-in feature to clear cache and cookies. Deleting them also helps with syncing issues. To do it on PC and mobile app, follow these steps:
computer
Step 1: Open Chrome Settings by clicking on the three dots icon.
Step 2: Under Settings, scroll down and click Advanced.
Step 3: Click Clear browsing data.
Step 4: Select ‘Cached images and files’ and ‘Cookies and other site data’. Click the Clear Data button.
Mobile application
Step 1: Open Chrome Settings with the three-dot icon.
Step 2: Tap Privacy, then Clear browsing data.
Step 3: Check ‘Cookies and site data’ and ‘Cached images and files.’ Then click the Clear Data button.
7. Verify device sync is enabled on Android
For that, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open phone Settings and go to Accounts (or Users and accounts).
Step 2: Tap your Google account, then Account Sync.
Step 3: Turn on the switch next to Chrome. If it’s on, turn it off and then re-enable it.
8. Check your anti-virus software
On your PC, try disabling your anti-virus software for a while. Then check if the bookmarks sync properly. If they do, there’s something wrong with your antivirus. Update it or use another one for a while until the developers solve the problem.
9. Disable Extensions
Sometimes extensions are also responsible for sync issues in Chrome. If you recently installed an extension, try disabling it. Or else you need to disable existing extensions one by one to find the culprit.
To do so, click the three-dot icon at the top in Chrome. Select More Tools followed by Extensions.
Use the toggle next to each extension to disable it. Once you find the culprit, disable or remove it.
10. Chrome Update
As with any software, sometimes the problem lies with the software itself. To fix it, you need to update it. On Android and iOS, visit their respective app stores to update Chrome. On a PC, tap the three-dot icon and select Help, then About Chrome.
Chrome will automatically check for updates. If an update is available, it will let you know.
