How to Export or Download Your Delicious Bookmarks

Delicious is one of the most popular bookmarking services; regardless of the fact that Yahoo didn’t really tap into its full potential. Now we can expect some quick changes in fire as it has been acquired by AVOS Systems. Leading AVOS are the founders of YouTube – Chad Hurley and Steve Chen.

So if your bookmarks are around the ‘old’ Delicious, you need to drop everything and quickly switch to the new Delicious. September 23 is the D-Day for the new Delicious, and if you still haven’t exported all your bookmarks, it could be the end of the world for you.

Thankfully, exporting your bookmarks (or downloading them) isn’t as difficult as moving house. The AVOS Systems terms of service and privacy policy go into the legality of the switch. That’s a lot of reading, so I think you should log into Delicious and transfer your bookmarks right away.

It’s easy – you just click the blue link that says – Continue to Delicious, to automatically opt-in.

Your voluntary opt-in also includes browser extensions. So now you have nothing to worry about.

But just in case you are one of those proficient users and have a precious collection of bookmarks collected over the years, you should also download a backup of it. Click the Settings link at the top right and the Delicious page displays your account information.

Click the link – Export/Backup Bookmarks. Delicious allows you to download all your bookmarks in HTML format for safekeeping.

Creating a backup can also help if you decide to switch to some other bookmarking service or just merge it into your browser’s bookmarks folder.

The web is in a constant state of change with new launches, acquisitions, and conversions. Thankfully, it also provides a hatch to keep our data intact.

Have you opted in to the new Delicious yet? Or are you choosing to export or download your Delicious bookmarks elsewhere? Let us know where and why.
