How to Enable Outlook Like Reading Pane in Gmail

Gmailicon

We have seen before that activating

Reading Pane on MS Outlook

can greatly reduce and speed up email viewing (when there are a lot of emails on the unread list, of course). You know how it works, just click on the email (you don’t have to double click and open it) and a

message preview

becomes available on the Reading Pane. Then you can actually open it in full view if needed.

Even though I have all my email accounts connected to MS Outlook, I still have to use Gmail’s web interface from time to time. Then my admiration for the Reading Pane led me to try a similar feature from Gmail Labs. And now I also have a beautiful Preview Pane on my Gmail interface.

Today we will tell you how to enable it for your account. But before we start, let’s take a look at the original and default interface.

Steps to activate Preview Pane on Gmail

If you like MS Outlook’s Reading Pane and are used to using such an interface, you’ll love the change in Gmail interface with this feature. Let us get started.

Step 1: Sign in to your Gmail account and browse to Setting to the top right of the interface. Then click Setting.

Step 2: On the Settings page, change the highlight to Labs tab and click Preview. This will filter the Lab features and show only results related to the preview.

Step 5: Click the button and select the view of your choice. To keep it as default, click leave selection No Split.

The Vertical division will create a Reading Pane on the right side of the interface and limit the email list on the left.

The Horizontal division will limit notifications to the top half of the interface while the bottom half will be designated as the Preview Pane.

Conclusion

I have a number of emails that I need to see every morning, and going through each email takes a lot of time. Furthermore, not all of them need equal attention and priority. When the Reading/Preview Pane is activated, I can quickly go through all my messages and spend maximum time on items of interest.

Are you planning to try this? Have you used the MS Outlook Reading Pane? Talk about your experience in the comments section.
