Android Marshmallow’s Now on Tap feature was one of the most hyped features when it debuted at Google I/O last year. With Marshmallow slowly rolling out to other OEMs, now users are like ‘*meh* Just another feature’. Yes, it’s great that Google is officially rolling out this Marshmallow feature on Nexus devices. But not cool enough to make users use it consistently. Because it’s not accurate. Now it’s one of those features crying in the corner for being abandoned. However, Google has quietly rolled out an update to Now on Tap for backup.
How to enable Google Now on Tap? Go Google App Settings > Now Tap > Press the Convert button to activate it.
Last week’s update included selecting text from any screen to search and not only text but also Images. It also has many bug fixes to increase accuracy. So with this update, I thought to revisit the Now on Tap feature and start using it consistently whenever needed. And here are some productive uses I discovered that might tempt you to revisit this feature on your Marshmallow phone. So let’s dig in.

1. Quickly search any text on Google from any screen
This is one of the features implemented in the latest update. Before that, it could just randomly grab the most prominent text on the screen and display relevant information about that text. But now, you can select specific text and let Now on Press Google it for you.
To do so long press Home page to activate Now on tap. It will do its magic animation and will give you options and show below. Choose the third option.
You should now be able to select any text from the screen. In the screenshot below, I selected WWDC after the party and it gives me some Google results and related news. You can also quickly get the definition of a word as shown in the next screenshot.
You can quickly share the current screen with different applications. First share button in Now on Press will do it for you.
Click Share and it will take a screenshot. Furthermore, you will see a share sheet to share it with your contacts and apps.

3. Get more information about an image
Google has been working on developing Artificial Intelligence to make their products more autonomous and intelligent. You can get pretty much its essence in Now on Episodes. Now it can easily recognize an image and give you information about it.
Here, I opened a photo of the Taj Mahal in my gallery.
It works with most images. Famous places, monuments or let’s say you have the Album Art of an album and you want more information about the singer and the songs in it. Now on Tap is a feature you should trust.
You can also select text from the image and Google it. This is the album art that Now on Tap cannot recognize. So I selected text from art and it gave me the result.
4. It even controls the camera
It can even scan the camera. Let’s say you want to get information about some products. Here I have focused my camera on the Samsung Galaxy Tab. And, Google now on tap has easily recognized it.
It basically scans the text from the camera. But, it works fine. And by the way, Google, it’s the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1

5. Unleash your entertainment
While listening to a song, sometimes you feel the need to check the lyrics. Sometimes, you forget your favorite singer on his latest single. Or maybe your favorite superhero movie has rolled out a trailer and you want to know the cast. Google Now on Tap has all the answers.
The movie trailer will now be informative. Get cast information, photos and related news.
The same can be used on Netflix and even your phone’s video player.
