How to Easily Create a Photo Gift CD or DVD With Google Picasa

Last week, I bought a new camera and no matter what I shoot, I just want to share it with everyone. I use Picasa Web Albums and Flickr to share my photos with friends. Indeed, these services are definitely among the best but my parents who are not technically savvy still can’t watch them online and that really frustrates me.

Email is not an option because the number of photos is quite large. Finally, a friend of mine suggested I create a photo gift CD or DVD using Google Picasa. This CD will automatically start your snapshot slideshow once the CD or DVD starts playing.

How to make a photo gift CD or DVD

Here in this tutorial I am assuming that you already have Picasa installed on your system. If not, please install it before you continue.

Step 1: Launch Picasa and import the photos you want to merge into your gift CD/DVD. Once you have them all in Picasa, select the album you want to share by clicking on the album’s name on the left and choosing Gift CD from the Create menu.

Step 2: If you want to add more photos to the collection, you have to do it now by using the Add More button and checking the folder you want to include. Once photos are recorded to an optical medium, they cannot be deleted nor added to the collection, so be sure before proceeding.

Step 3: Adjust your settings such as choosing the image size, including an automatic slideshow, or including a copy of the Picasa software on the disc.

Note: If you select ‘Include Slideshow’, the photos will be copied in the same order that you arranged them in your folder or album. Otherwise, the photos will be copied in the same order as they were stored on your hard drive, most likely in alphabetical order by filename.

Step 5: Finally name your gift CD or DVD, insert a blank media and click the create button. The number of discs required to complete the job is listed in the blue bar above the ‘Create Gift’ CD option.

If you don’t want to burn the disc right away, you can even create an ISO file and save it to your hard disk. You can then burn it with any image recording software.

CDs or DVDs can now be viewed on compatible media players such as Windows Media Player or QuickTime. These CDs and DVDs can only be played on a computer and will not work on regular CD/DVD players unless they support JPEG.

Now you can send these personalized DVDs of your favorite moments to family and friends, and include them in your cherished moments.
