How to Disable Google Assistant on Lock Screen and Other Cool Tips

Google Assistant is undoubtedly the best AI-powered digital assistant out there. It’s fast, accurate, and it gets better and better the more you use it. Google has invested heavily in this assistant over the past few years, and it has come a long way since its inception. It has more features than you might need and you might want to remove a few of them.

How to disable Google Assistant on the lock screen

To disable the Google Assistant that fires when your phone is locked, you need to disable a setting called Voice Match. Just follow these simple steps to turn off Voice Match on your device:

Step 1: Launch Google Assistant with voice commands or hold down the home button. Then click the box icon in the bottom left corner to open the Assistant page.

Step 2: Here, tap on your profile picture in the top right corner. In the following window switch to the Assistant tab.

Step 3: Once there, scroll all the way down and select the Phone option from the Assistant device list.

Step 4: In the next page, tap the switch next to the Access by Voice Match option to turn it off and then tap OK in the pop-up that follows.

That will turn off Voice Match and the Google Assistant will no longer show up when you accidentally call it while your device is locked. Pretty simple, right?

If you want to disable this feature entirely, you can also delete your Voice sample. To do so, simply tap on the Voice Sample option then tap on Remove Voice Sample in the next page.

Now that you’ve successfully disabled the Google Assistant from showing on the lock screen, let’s take a look at some helpful Assistant features that you should try instead.

Set up a flow for the Google Assistant

There are different commands you can use with the Google Assistant. But did you know that you can set up custom commands or Processes to trigger a series of actions? Well, you do now. Just follow these steps to set up your custom command:

Step 1: Navigate to the Assistant settings as you did before and then select the Process option.

Step 2: In the next page, tap the plus icon in the bottom right corner to set up a new habit.

Step 3: Add a new command in the New Flow page, and then select an action or means to be triggered when you use that command. You can do that by tapping the blue Add action and Add media reminder.

Step 4: When you add a new action, you can type whatever you want the Assistant to do in the space provided. Alternatively, you can select a popular action by tapping the Select popular action prompt.

After selecting an action, tap Add in the top right corner to include it in your custom routine. Your new workflow will now show up in the Main Processes page and can be activated using the specified command whenever you open the Google Assistant.

Change the voice of Google Assistant

Don’t like the voice of the Google Assistant? Well, you can change that too. Google offers several voice options, both male and female, for you to choose from. Follow these easy steps to change your Assistant’s voice:

Step 2: In the following menu, tap one of the circles to play a sample of the Assistant’s voice. To select a voice, leave the voice alone and close the menu.

Discover new Google assistant commands

As I mentioned earlier, the Google Assistant includes support for a variety of commands. Most of us only use a fraction of the available commands simply because we don’t know. Thankfully, there’s a simple way you can discover new Assistant commands. Here’s how you can do it:
