In this day and age, people are learning to be more conscious of the type and amount of personal information they give out, especially online. And this is the result of recent privacy and security scandals that have rocked popular social media platforms over the years.
Virtual assistants are extremely useful in that they help get a lot of things done quickly. However, with their use comes a slight risk of breach and invasion of privacy.
Google Assistant is one of the most popular virtual assistants in the world. Whenever you use the assistant on your phone or smart device in your home, Google records every activity, request, command, response, and conversation you have with the Assistant.
And since you can’t be sure about what Google might do with your personal information in the future, it’s a good idea to clear your Google Assistant history from time to time. Keep in mind that Apple, earlier this year, was embroiled in a privacy scandal that allowed third-party contractors to listen to private recordings of Siri users.
To stay safe with the Google Assistant, it’s a good idea to clear your history from time to time. And here’s how to get it done on your Android device.
Fun fact: The Google Assistant is available in more than 30 languages and is used on more than a billion devices in 80 countries.

Clear Google Assistant History
Google offers several ways and options for users to clear their Assistant history. You can choose to delete it manually or create an automatic deletion schedule. Likewise, you can also choose to delete your activities in the Google Assistant individually, or delete them in bulk — be it by date, time, date, or a custom range/time.
Check out the many ways to clear your Google Assistant History and how you can do it.
Delete assistant history separately
The Google Assistant activity dashboard contains a long list of your interactions with the virtual assistant. To clear individual history;
Step 1: On the item details page, tap the three-dot menu icon in the upper right corner.
Step 2: Select Delete.
Alternatively, you can return to the activity panel, tap the menu icon, and select Delete.
Clear assistant history by day/day
Another easy way to clear Assistant history is to delete entries by date. So instead of deleting the history one by one, you can clear the Assistant history for an entire day.
Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: On the Google Assistant activity dashboard, find a specific date or date whose history you want to delete.
Step 2: Click the trash can icon next to the date/date to delete the entire Assistant history for the day.
Clear assistant history by scope
Let’s say you want to clear your Assistant history for a specific number of days or weeks. You can do that by setting a custom scope to delete.
Step 1: Tap the three-dot menu icon in the upper-right corner of the Google Assistant Activity page.
Step 2: Select ‘Delete Activity By’ from the menu.
Step 3: Tap on Custom Scope option.
Step 4: In the After section, select the start date that you want to start deleting. Likewise, enter the end date in Before dialog box.
Step 5: Tap the Next button at the bottom of the screen to proceed with clearing the Google Assistant history for the selected date range.
Delete All Google Assistant History Instantly
If you don’t want to delete your Assistant history items individually, or to a specific extent, there’s an option that lets you instantly delete all saved history and profiles.
Step 1: Tap the menu icon in the upper-right corner of the Google Assistant Activity home page.
Step 2: Select the ‘Delete Activity By’ option.
Step 3: Select Always.
Step 4: Click the Delete button. You can also choose to preview the recordings that you will delete by tapping the Preview more option.
After that, Google won’t keep any of your future interactions with the Assistant.
Automatically delete Google Assistant history
Manually deleting your Assistant history can be tiring and time consuming. An alternative to that is to set up an automatic deletion schedule. That way, you can sit back and relax as the Google Assistant recordings get deleted over time.
Here’s how to set up automatic deletion of your Google Assistant history.
Step 1: Tap the Menu button in the upper-right corner of the Google Assistant Activity page.
Step 2: Select the ‘Delete Activity By’ option.
Step 3: Tap the ‘Set up automatic deletion’ option.
Step 4: Select ‘Keep for 18 months’ or ‘Hold for 3 months’ for the automatic deletion timeframe and click Next.
Currently, Google only allows you to automatically delete your Assistant after 3 and 18 months because keeping your data with the assistant can improve your experience. If you want to delete your history immediately and always, you have to do it manually.
Keep your information private
Google tracks what you search for on their search engine and also maintains records of all your interactions with Google products. Since Google Assistant is somewhat of a virtual personal assistant, it certainly has a lot of your data and personal information. That means Google has it too. And unless you delete your Assistant History, Google will forever have it all — voice memos, addresses, health and travel info, calls, commands, to-dos, schedules, and more. Your privacy is important, so you should delete any personal information the Google Assistant has about you.
