How to Create and Use Note Links in Evernote to Organize Notes

Chan Note Link

Whenever I’m working on a project, I use Evernote to take notes of important documents I find online.

from websites. The only problem I have is organizing those truncated pages efficiently.

Of course, Evernote provides tagging that I can use to separate project documents from other notes in the notebook. However, when there are many articles in the bibliography, it becomes difficult to find relevant research flows. Meaning, if there was a way to create a linked index of these notes in order of their precedence, it would be easier to refer to them while documenting the project.

Link notes is an Evernote feature that can help in such cases. Link notes by name that describe links (hyperlinks) to notes you already have in your Evernote notebook. When you create a link to a note, you can paste it into a new note that will act as a hyperlink to the existing note.

Note links can only be created on the desktop version of Evernote, but can be accessed anywhere (from the web and smartphones). When you are using the desktop version of Evernote, right click on a specific note summary and select the option Copy link note.

The unique link to the note will be copied to your clipboard, from where you can paste it into a new Evernote note. This link will act as a hyperlink to the existing note and clicking it will open the linked note.

Note: These links will work perfectly on Evernote. If you try to link a document on any third-party application like Google Calendar or Microsoft Word, a click of the link will attempt to launch the Evernote application installed on the computer.

As far as I know, I use Evernote’s note-linking feature to create an index for my research, but the possibilities an individual can use it are endless. If you have to frequently share notes with a person, you can share the notebook first and then use the note link in the notes in that notebook. Since the entire notebook is shared, collaborators will also have access to the notes via the notes link.

So link notes is definitely a great feature for many Evernote users. Remember to use it the next time you’re trying to find your way through that pile of Evernote notes.
