How to Change the Startup and Home Page on Google Chrome

The Google logo and search bar are the first things you’ll see when you open the Chrome browser. Google calls it the startup page. However, if you are tired of this boring view, you can change it. Google Chrome packs a lot of personalization options in it.

Another way to personalize your Google Chrome browser is to set up a homepage. Now, the homepage is different from the startup page. Although the startup page is the page that shows up when you launch Chrome, the home page shows up when you click the Home button. Here’s how to set up both the startup and home pages on Google Chrome.

How to change the startup page on Google Chrome

Chrome’s start page doesn’t have to be the boring Chrome icon with the address bar. You can change it to something else, such as a Facebook page, email inbox, or any frequently visited website. Here’s how to change the start page on Google Chrome for desktop:

Step 1: On your Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer, click the Start menu and search for Chrome.

Step 2: Click Open to launch the Chrome app from the results.

Step 3: Navigate your cursor to the top right of the browser and click on the vertical ellipsis in the top right corner to ‘Customize and control Google Chrome’.

Step 4: Click Install from the options.

Step 6: Choose any of the options below for your Chrome startup preferences:

  • Open a new page.
  • Continue where you left off.
  • Open a specific page or set of pages.

Step 7: When you click ‘Open a specific page or set of pages’, you can choose ‘Add new page’ or ‘Use existing pages’.

Step 8: When you click ‘Add New Page’, a dialog will ask for the URL of the page you want to add.

Step 9: Click Add to save your changes.

Google Chrome does not provide an option to change the startup page on the mobile version of the app. Normally, Google Chrome apps resume from existing pages on launch. However, if you are using an Android phone or tablet, you can always change the home page. Check out the next section to find out how.

How to change homepage on Google Chrome

You can set up a Home on your Google Chrome. This page is always linked to the Home button next to the refresh button located near the address bar. When you click the Home button, by default it takes you to the New tab screen. However, changing the settings means the button redirects you to your favorite screen.
