Quick Tips
- On desktop, tap the Info icon in the chat window and select Change theme to choose a gradient or a default theme.
- On mobile, tap the profile name at the top and select Theme. You will see many options of colors and designs for changing your theme.
- It’s impossible to change the Messenger chat themes for all messages.
Things to Know About Messenger Chat Themes
- Any participant in the chat can change the Messenger theme. And the same will be reflected for all participants.
- When a theme changes, the same will be mentioned in the chat to notify the chat participants.
- It’s not possible to change the Messenger chat themes for all messages.
- Chat themes apply to individual chats only. So, if you want to apply the same theme to multiple chats or all messages, repeat the steps individually for all chats.
- The dark or light theme will be applied to the entire Messenger interface.
How to Change Theme in Messenger
We suggest installing the latest versions of the app on your device before proceeding with the steps.
On Mobile
Step 1: Open the Messenger app on your iPhone or Android and tap the contact name at the top.
Step 2: Tap on Theme and scroll down to see all the options.
The Messenger app provides options for color gradients and custom themes. Tap on the one you like to keep it as your theme.
On Desktop
Step 1: Open the app and tap the Info icon at the top-right corner. Then, click on Change theme.
Step 2: Click on any color to change the chat color. Click on the items in the first row to change the background as well.
Note: You might not see the background on the PC. But if you open the Messenger app on mobile, you will see a new background for your chat.

How to Change Messenger Theme to Default or Classic on PC and Mobile
If you don’t like the new colors or someone else changed the Messenger theme, revert to the classic theme.
On Desktop
Step 1: Click on the Change theme from the sidebar of Messenger on your PC.
Step 2: When the color picker appears, click on the blue color to change the Messenger theme back to normal.
On Mobile
Step 1: Tap on the participant’s name in the chat thread and tap on Themes.
Step 2: Tap on the blue color. This will revert any applied theme to Messenger’s default or classic theme.
