Spotify continues to be one of the best platforms for streaming music and podcasts. As a result, you should expect Spotify’s user interface to be easy to use and beautiful. Unfortunately, most users are not satisfied with the changes they continue to make. Make playlist cover changes on mobile, desktop, or web. Many people don’t know how to change playlist covers on mobile, desktop and web.
Creating, editing, and managing playlists should be easy and straightforward. This is one of the key features of any music streaming app. But many users are having issues with how the new UI works and are unable to change the playlist cover on their Spotify app. We will show you how.
Let’s get started.
How Spotify playlist covers work
By default, there is no way to select a playlist cover when creating a new playlist in the Spotify app. That’s true for both web and mobile apps. The desktop application is more flexible.
Spotify will automatically create a playlist cover collage by taking the album covers of the first four songs on your playlist.
That is not very imaginative. You cannot choose an image to your liking. What you can do, however, is rearrange the first four songs in your playlist to change the playlist cover collage. We’ll see how it works below.
The desktop app is the only place where you can choose any image as the cover photo for your Spotify playlist. Even one that you’ve downloaded from the web and not necessarily one of the song’s album art.
1. Change Playlist Cover on Spotify for Android
Open the playlist for which you want to change the cover and tap the three-dot menu icon to select Edit playlist.
You should now notice three horizontal lines next to each song. Touch and hold to move songs up and down the list.
Save the changes and check the playlist cover again.
2. Change Playlist Cover on Spotify for iOS
The steps largely remain the same for iOS users. Open the new playlist to cover and tap the three-dot menu icon to select Edit.
You can now move songs up and down the list by dragging the three horizontal lines icon next to each song.
Sadly, the first four songs in the playlist will be used to recreate the playlist cover art, as well as the system.
3. Change Spotify playlist cover art for desktop
The steps for both Windows and macOS are the same. I will be using Windows 10 for this tutorial. Open the Spotify app on your computer and select the playlist you want to change the cover for.
You’ll see the playlist cover with the collage in action. Hover over the playlist collage image to see the edit button. Click it once.
A pop-up will appear with options to change the name and description of the playlist. It’s not immediately obvious, but clicking on a cover photo will let you choose an image that’s saved on your desktop.
You will be greeted with the Windows file manager in a new pop-up window.
Alternatively, click the three-dot menu icon on the cover photo to select the Replace Image option.
Choose your favorite image as your Spotify cover photo and save the settings. The same will now also reflect on the Spotify app on your smartphone.
Note: The ability to change the Spotify cover photo only works on the desktop app, not the web or mobile app. The odd UI selection shows how most people use smartphones to listen to their Spotify collection.
Spotify cover photo event
Spotify has not released any information on the size or dimensions of the cover art. Here are some details based on the Spotify community and their experiments. Take it with a grain of salt.
The image is a 1:1 square (square), which is pretty obvious when looking at the cover image. The minimum size should be 300 × 300 pixels; Otherwise, it won’t look good. According to some users, the image size should not exceed 4MB. And finally, the image must be in JPEG format.
Spot the difference
Many people also use Spotify on their desktop and laptop computers. They like to listen to music while studying or working. Changing the Spotify cover photo is less irritating for them than for those who rely more on the mobile app. There’s still a way to change those auto-generated covers, though, and that’s a plus. Otherwise we’d be stuck and I wouldn’t always want to shuffle the songs in my playlist to change the cover art. That’s way too much trouble. But I know people who have spent hours and hours getting things right. This guide will help them.
