When I first started using the computer, I used to play all my music on Winamp Player. And when I was a kid, I was obsessed with all sorts of interesting things

skin

but to the end. They were all the rage those days. I used to change them regularly and enjoy the new look. I’m sure many of you can relate to this.

However, most of us have gone on to leave that child behind in us. While we still love to beautify our desktops with widgets and themes, I don’t see what’s new on the internet these days on the media player interface. Today, to refresh my memory, I tried applying the interface on Windows Media Player and my fun knows no bounds.

So I thought I should document this process and you can also dive into your memory. All the skins support basic functions and some of them also have extra features, amazingly.

Steps to change the interface on Windows Media Player

Step 1: Of course, you will need to start Windows Media Player. Click Begin and type Windows Media Player to bring it up.

If you are in Now playing you should switch to Gallery mode by clicking Switch to the library.

Switch to the library

Step 2: Navigate to Arrange -> Layout and make sure that Show menu bar marked. If not, do it now.

Enable the menu bar

Step 3: On the menu bar, click See and then on Skin selector. This will bring up skins where you can choose different skins, view/apply them, delete or even download new skins.

Launch Skin Picker

Step 4: Select the skin from the left pane (preview is available on the right) and click apply skin If you like it.

Skin options

You can download (must login as admin) more interesting ones by clicking + Many other skins and follow the instructions on the following website. This is the official page for the Windows media player interface.

Note: To return to the Player Library at any time, right-click anywhere on the interface and select Switch to the library.

Conclusion

As you’ve seen, it’s easy to change the look and feel on Windows Media Player and get rid of the bland and conventional interface. Don’t forget to tell us about your favorite skin and the extras (if any) it has.
