In this digital age, re-sharing someone’s photos and images is a sad reality. If you don’t want others to recognize your credits, the best solution is to bookmark them before you post them online. And if you’re an Apple iPhone owner, thankfully, adding a watermark to photos on iPhone is an easy process. This is especially true for photos taken on your phone.
You don’t need to go through the lengthy process of adding a watermark through image editors like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP. Instead, you can use your iPhone’s built-in editor to add watermarks to photos. Or if you are not satisfied, you can use photo editing applications for iPhone like Snapseed or Canva.
The best part is that the process is simple and takes just over a minute. If you want to add a watermark to your photos on iPhone, here’s how.
How to add watermark to photos on iPhone
Method 1: Built-in photo editor
As noted earlier, the iPhone’s built-in photo editor lets you seamlessly add watermarks. Of course, it won’t be as stylish as what you can create with apps like Photoshop or Canva. But it gets the job done.
Step 1: Open the photo you want to edit via Photos. Tap the Edit button in the top right corner to edit.
Once in, tap the little pencil-like icon in the top right corner to open the Markup tool.
Step 2: Next, tap the small Plus icon in the bottom ribbon and select Text.
Tap the text box and drag it to the position you like. In our case, we’ve placed it in the bottom right corner. Next, drag the corners of the text box to adjust its size.
Step 3: Double-tap the Text option to add your text. Next, choose one of the colors from the bottom ribbon.
Markup also offers two other fonts—Georgia and Notable. If you are looking for an interesting topic, you can choose the last option. And hey, you can adjust the font size.
Once done, save the changes. That’s it. You have a new watermark for your image.
The only drawback of this method is that it proves to be very redundant if you have some photos to blur on your iPhone. Also, if you want the watermark to be the same size for each image.
In addition, you can also add a signature as a watermark. However, this method does not allow you to play with colors.
Method 2: Third-party photo editor
Third-party editors like Snapseed (see tips and best Snapseed settings) and Canva also let you add watermarks to your iPhone photos. And unlike the method above, you don’t have to do the redundant task of creating a watermark over and over again. Instead, you can pre-create a single watermark file and use that on all your photos. Again, the usual rules apply. For example, a watermark would need to have a transparent background.
While there are many image editors out there, we will explore reliable apps like Snapseed and Canva. Here, we’ll go with Snapseed first.
Step 1: On Snapseed, open the transparent image and export it to a new file as shown in the screenshot below. This step will ensure that you can use the image as a logo.
Step 2: Next, tap the Plus icon to open a new image. Tap Tools and scroll down until you see the Double Exposure option.
Once done, tap the Plus icon in the bottom ribbon to select the Watermark image. Once done, pinch the screen to resize the watermark file. Next, move it to one of the corners.
Step 3: Click the three tabs icon (Blending Mode) and select Lighten or Add to keep the original color of the original image.
Step 4: Click the Opacity icon and drag the slider to the left slightly to adjust the opacity of the watermark.
Now just export the image, and that’s about it. Your photo with watermark is ready to be posted on social networking sites.
Thankfully, the process is much easier on Canva. Here, you need to open the photo and add a watermark by clicking the Plus icon as shown below.
Once done, the usual rules apply—pinch and re-adjust the image as you see fit. And that’s it! Your photo with watermark is ready.

With iPhones with excellent clickability and image processing, you can leave a watermark on them before sharing to Instagram. However, adding a watermark is a two-way street. The idea is not to go overboard with watermarks, especially with images you want to share on Instagram.
