How to Add & Keep Facebook Events in Sync With Google Calendar

Has Facebook made us more social or has it caused social laziness in all of us when we thought a simple status update was enough? Well, that debate will be fierce, but what is more certain is that Facebook has provided us with some easy social and engagement tools to better engage our friends.

Events on Facebook are for everyone (or a select few) to know about anything that happens at a certain place and time. It is one of the easiest ways to spread the invitation on the viral network. Whether it’s an impromptu meet-up or a large-scale rally, Facebook Events can be the go-to broadcasting tool.

But Facebook Events are about date and time. As a result, it may be necessary to sync all that data to a Calendar app like Google Calendar. So it’s helpful to know that you can export all your Facebook Events to Google Calendar with a few clicks. This is the way –

1. Log into Facebook and click Events in the left column.

2. The Events page is where all the action will take place.

3. Click Export to display the Export Events dialog box. With that said, you can copy and paste links into programs like Apple iCal, Outlook, and Google Calendar. This registers all your events with the target program.

4. You can also export individual events from each Events page by clicking the Export Events link. It shows the following screen:

5. Clicking the blue Export button will create an .ICS file that can be saved to the desktop.

6. Sign in to Google Calendar and click the down arrow next to Other Calendars. You can now import your Facebook Events using two methods:

Add by URL: Paste the link you copied from Facebook into the Add by URL field.

Import calendar: Select the ICS file you downloaded and upload it to Google Calendar.

The calendar will appear in the Other Calendars section of the list of calendars on the left. It will sync with Facebook events, and Google calendar will automatically update each time you accept or decline a Facebook event. You can always go into your Google Calendar settings and unsubscribe from Facebook Events updates.
