How to Add Country Based Logging Restriction to LastPass

Country-based password security

There are two ways to manage your passwords. You can create your own system for storing and retrieving them as needed, or you take advantage of a good password manager. LastPass is a solution you can try if you choose the latter. LastPass gives you quite a few features that make it one of the must-do settings on your browser. When we talked about its ten great features, we didn’t talk about the one we are going to review today.

That’s because adding country-specific logging restrictions is a standout new privacy feature on LastPass.

Another layer of protection – Restrict logins to specific countries

LastPass now allows you to set the country from which you can log into your LastPass account. In practice, it means that if you enable the feature, you can only log into your account from an IP address that originates from the countries you selected in the LastPass settings.

Step 1. Go to Interest -> Select Account Settings from the left panel and launch the account settings in your LastPass account. Login restrictions are placed on overview navigation.

Step 2. Country of origin is checked by default (in my case India). Here you can select one or more countries to allow login.

Step 3. Click Update. To allow your changes, you must re-enter your master password.

“Countries” is plural. If you haven’t left your country in a while, you can set it so that you can only access LastPass from an IP originating in your country. For example, you may be mobile and may have to stop at a network cafe or use public Wi-Fi to access some passwords. Neither is recommended, but when you’re on the road, that’s pretty much a real-world scenario.

If you travel often, you can always adjust the settings according to your travel plans.

LastPass says that you’ll see an error message when you sign in that takes you to a URL where you can follow the steps to turn off the setting using email. Remember that if you’ve enabled a secure email address for your LastPass account, the deactivation email will be sent there instead of your account email address.

Does the extra layer of security from LastPass give you a warm feeling? Or as a world explorer like you find it a headache? Comments are awaited.
