Samuel James Cassell Sr. was born on November 18, 1969 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States to Donna Cassell and her husband. Sam’s father’s name unavailable at present. He is an American and currently 53 years of age. He stands at 6 feet 3 inches and has a weight of 84 kilograms (185 lbs).

Cassell was drafted in the 1st round, 24th overall pick in the 1993 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets. He went on to spend three seasons with the Rockets where he won two championships in 1994 and 1995.
He was also a key contributor during the Rockets playoff run his rookie year, notably dropping 22 points and seven assists in a game 7 win against the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Semifinals, and scoring 7 points in the final 32 seconds of a 93–89 win in game 3 of the 1994 NBA Finals against the New York Knicks.
Cassell went on to star for the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, New Jersey Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Clippers and the Boston Celtics. He won the championship again in 2008 before he retired a year later on May 2009.
