Hogwarts Legacy house differences exist in the game, so it’s important to make sure you choose the right house for you, especially on your first playthrough. The four houses your character can be placed in, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin, are the same as in the Harry Potter storyline of the Wizarding World.
Unless you’re already set on what house you want to be in, you might be curious as to what differences come with each in the game. We will also cover which house is the best to choose for gameplay reasons.

Hogwarts Legacy House Differences

The most notable Hogwarts Legacy house differences are cosmetic. As well as your house robes sporting the colours and signature animal of which house you’re in, you’ll also be in different common rooms as well.
The colours are as follows:
- Slytherin wears green and a snake
- Hufflepuff wears yellow with a badger
- Gryffindor wears red with a lion
- Ravencalw wears blue with an eagle
Different common rooms
For returning fans, the Gryffindor common room will be the most familiar – being in a red-and-gold themed castle tower that’s the same as seen in the Harry Potter films. Meanwhile, the Slytherin common room has a sleek, darkened underground aesthetic and Ravenclaw’s an open and light-filled “sanctuary for learning feel”, it is also the only common room you can access from the roof using your broom.
Lastly, Hufflepuff’s common room also has an underground feel like Slytherin’s, but rather like a badger burrow with a much cosier and earthy presentation – similar to a Lord of the Rings-esque Hobbit hole. In addition, other students may interact with you slightly differently as well depending on what house you’re in.
Unique missions
Finally, the biggest Hogwarts Legacy house difference found are changes made to some of the main missions in the story. Whilst the general story beats aren’t any different, as the destination remains the same, certain ways to get there may be carried out in different quests. Below are the unique quests for each house.
- Gryffindor students will go on the Hunt for the Missing Pages quest, meeting Nearly Headless Nick in the process
- The Ravenclaw quest kicks off the Hunt for Ollivander’s Heirloom, where you’ll investigate The Owlery
- Slytherin students’ unique quest is Scrope’s Last Hope, where you will get to dive deeper into Headmaster Black’s background
- If you choose Hufflepuff you will find the Prisoner of Love, which is the only way to visit the famous prison Azkaban in the game

The aforementioned Azkaban mission does give Hufflepuff the edge, but it means you’re gonna have to wear a lot of yellow throughout the game.
Most people who are fans of the films will likely have already decided on their chosen house, but if you’re new to the wizarding world it won’t be quite so transparent – with Hufflepuff offering the biggest quest we think it wins.
