One of the best things about Windows from an end-user perspective is the ease of customization. One can quickly change wallpapers, screensavers etc for a brand new look every day. While you can change these individually, what about changing them all at once with some specific theme?
Themes are a collection of desktop backgrounds, window color settings, sound schemes, and screensavers packaged in a single file that makes working with the interface and setting a little easier. Let’s see how we can play with these themes to get an enchanting desktop every day.
Apply a theme
By default, Windows 7 comes with 6 different themes to improve your mood but you can unleash some more hidden themes with this simple guide.
To apply another new theme in Windows 7, open the Personalization window by opening the right-click context menu anywhere on your desktop and clicking Personalize.
Once you are in the personalization window, click on any theme from the list of installed themes to change the desktop background, window color, sound and screensaver all at once.
If you are not satisfied with a theme and want to give it a personal touch then you can do that too.
Personalize a theme
Let’s see how we can personalize a theme.
Add/remove background image for current theme
In the selected theme, if you want to add or remove some wallpapers to the collection, click Desktop background while you are still in the personalization window.
Customize the wallpaper by selecting the ones you want and deselecting the rest. You can add some of your own by entering them using the browse button.
You can also change the background image position and screen background duration according to your requirements.
When you’re done, click the Save Changes button.
Customize theme color
To change the color of the window borders, Start Menu, and Taskbar, you need to click on the Windows color.
In Windows Color and Appearance, you can choose your favorite color, its intensity, and transparency. You can also open the color mixer to manually set the Hue, Saturation, and Brightness for a selected color.
When you are satisfied with the changes you have made, click the Save Changes button.
Change the sound scheme
To manually set the sound for a Windows event such as Windows startup, shutdown, empty trash, etc., click the Sound button in the personalization window.
Select the sound scheme from the drop-down list and click apply
Screen Saver
To change the screensaver, click the Screensaver button.
Select your desired screensaver and click apply.
After you make any changes to a theme, windows will treat it as a brand new unsaved theme. To save it for future use, right-click on the custom theme and click Save Theme.
Give it an appropriate name and click ok.
The theme will be saved on your computer and you can re-enable it with the same settings if you want to return to it at any time.
Well, this is not everyone, stay tuned for tomorrow’s post where I will discuss with you how to hunt great themes online, along with detailed steps to download and install them.
