Everyone loves to see their contact’s display on incoming and outgoing calls. It makes it easy to recognize the caller without having to say the name. Just one glance at the screen and you know who’s calling.
One can always assign an image to a contact manually using the phone’s built-in tools. However, doing the work manually kills the fun, especially when you have hundreds of contacts to which you want to assign a corresponding display photo.
So today we are going to look at making this process hassle free. We need photos from somewhere and what better than getting them from social networks like Facebook, WhatsApp et al? You can get them on your Android contacts with just a few clicks.
We’ll first look at the trick for Facebook and LinkedIn contacts, then move on to WhatsApp.

Sync.Me for Android
Sync.Me for Android is an app that magically updates your contact book with information from social profiles like Facebook and LinkedIn. After installing the app, you’ll have to connect your Facebook and LinkedIn accounts to the app and grant access to your friends list. Having done that, just press the . button sync button in the app to get all contact information from these services. Sync.Me syncs not only the contact’s display picture from the web, but also their phone number, email, website, job title, and the company they’re working for if they’ve shared the information.
Sync.Me can match contacts even if they have slightly different names on your contact book and you will be given the option to review the smart match before the app actually syncs the data .
Once all contacts are linked and the initial sync is completed successfully, the app automatically syncs the information at regular intervals. You won’t even have to reopen the app until the next time you update your contacts. The app also has birthday reminders and you can also send congratulatory messages right from the app.
However, sometimes not all of our contacts are on Facebook. For example, I don’t add my office associates to my Facebook (we all have our reasons) and that’s when I realized I could get these caller display pictures from their WhatsApp account. A simple app called WhatsApp Contact can do this.
Contact WhatsApp
WhatsApp Contacts shows all your phone contacts on the left side and WhatsApp contacts on the right side and a quick tap will give you the option to import contact images to the device.
However, sometimes, you may not see a contact’s display image on the app even if they actually do. This could be because the image may not have been cached in your device’s WhatsApp cache yet. Simply tap the contact to open their WhatsApp chat list and load the profile picture from the contact info screen. Once the image has finished loading, just tap the back button to navigate to the WhatsApp Contacts app and it will give you the option to apply the image to the contact.
Note: You must click on the WhatsApp contact photo to enlarge it so the app can assign the photo to the contact.
This app also keeps a list of the 5 most recent WhatsApp profile pictures used by the contact and gives you the option to choose any of them as the caller photo. This app doesn’t have any extra features, but it serves its purpose.
