Destiny 2 Iron Banner schedule for Season of the Witch in October 2023

Destiny 2 continues the Iron Banner tradition, with players jumping in each month for more Crucible action. Destiny 2 is most of the way through Season of the Witch, a season that has seen plenty of changes come to the ancient contest.

Iron Banner has even the most PvE-focused players dusting off their PvP gear for a chance at some of the most powerful loot in the game. Here is everything you need to know right now about Iron Banner in Destiny 2.

When does the next Iron Banner start in Destiny 2?

The second Iron Banner of Season of the Witch is kicking off on October 10, 2023. The game mode for this Iron Banner is Eruption.

The first Iron Banner of Destiny 2 Season of the Witch began on September 5, 2023, and ran through to September 12, 2023.

There is typically one Iron Banner event scheduled each month – or three during each season. As there are three Iron Banner game modes, typically each Iron Banner is dedicated to one of them.

Each week of Iron Banner lasts from Tuesday to Tuesday, kicking off at the weekly reset. If you log in during the week prior, you will get a notification letting you know that Iron Banner will be returning.

The biggest change to Iron Banner in Season of the Witch comes in how daily challenges work. Starting this season, Iron Banner’s daily challenges will be split into two series of challenges.

Each series works similarly to how daily challenges have previously worked in the mode, with a new challenge rolled out each day for the first four days of the event. This has often been a source of confusion among players, but rest assured that the daily challenges are still there.

The two series of challenges are broken up as follows:

  • First series  – tasks players with completing matches with no restrictions, using any subclass, to receive Iron Banner rank bonus multipliers.
  • Second series – works more like the original IB challenges and has players using specific seasonal subclasses in order to earn Pinnacle rewards.

New Iron Banner weapons

While there are no brand-new weapons coming with Iron Banner this Destiny 2 season, two past weapons are returning with new features.

First among the improved Iron Banner weapons is the Point of the Stag bow, which has new perks available to roll with. One of those is Precision Instrument, a brand-new trait that increases precision damage after sustained damage is dealt.

The other returning weapon is the Guiding Sight scout rifle: a usually slow-firing but high-impact scout rifle in the kinetic slot that’s had a big change by returning as a Strand weapon. This weapon could be the perfect addition for players putting together a ranged Strand build.

How many Iron Banner game modes are there?

There are three rotating game modes in Iron Banner: Control, Eruption, and Fortress. Only one of these modes will be active during a particular week of Iron Banner, cycling through all three in a single season.

Control

Control is the basic Crucible mode you know and love: Capture control points and defeat opponents. Your score goes up for every enemy killed – 1 point if your team holds 1 control point, 2 if your team has 2, and 3 if you control all 3 points.

Eruption

Eruption is an interesting new mode. Basically, it is Clash (or a team deathmatch) with a twist.

Getting kills builds up energy, obtaining 2 kills and you will be Surged, and 5 kills will see you become Primed. Primed is the Hunt mechanic of Eruption.

When a player is Primed, they have a fifteen-second timer in which to get another kill, or they will explode. Kills while Surged are worth 2 points. Kills while Primed, or killing the Primed opponent, are worth 3 points.

Fortress

Fortress is another mode in which you capture objectives, but no points are awarded for defeating opponents. You gain 2 points every time interval for each zone you control.

Twice during each match, a Cabal drop pod will appear. Capturing that will grant a large number of points over a shorter period of time.

Destiny 2 Iron Banner rewards explained

Onto the main reason we do anything in Destiny 2 Iron Banner: the rewards. This is where some of the biggest changes have happened in Iron Banner over the last while, as Saladin has been brought in to step with the other vendors in the game.

It is still quite simple, as you can play matches of Iron Banner to your heart’s content and earn items from random drops (or by levelling up your Iron Banner rank). However, you can now also focus Iron Banner engrams, which is done by speaking to Lord Saladin in the Tower and choosing the Focus Engram option.

This will allow you to turn engrams into specific items – even items from older versions of Iron Banner. If there is a specific weapon with a specific roll that you really want, this is the best way to do it.
