Customize Click, Scroll, Drag & Other Trackpad Gestures in OS X Lion

The trackpad (or trackpad) that comes with today’s Macbook Pro and Air, also available as a separate product to be used with iMac or Windows systems, was released around 2010 and Apple calls it it is Magic Trackpad.

It’s not just Apple’s obsession with the word “magic” that has led to the name this product is anointed with. The trackpad is revolutionary in many ways. It introduced some great gestures and allowed people to switch from the old one- or two-finger click or scroll to three-finger scrolling, horizontal scrolling, pinch-to-zoom gestures, etc. (image credits – kazzhx)

You can also customize the Trackpad gestures and change the scrolling or dragging behavior to the way that works best for you. This is what we will see in this article.

Steps to Customize Trackpad Gestures in OS X Lion

Step 1: Click on the Apple Menu and then click System Preferences.

You can browse through the options and customize them to your liking. For example, Secondary or right-click can be customized to be a bottom-right click or a bottom-left click from the default two-finger tap.

Step 5: Finally, we have the More Gestures page where you can customize the new gestures Lion has introduced (e.g. swiping between full-screen apps and mission control). It’s all pretty easy. Just click an option, select the option you want from the drop-down menu, and you’re done.

If you ask me, I ran into some initial hiccups using the Trackpad that I guess any long-time Windows user might experience. But over the days, the Trackpad grew in me and I started to like the different gestures it allowed me to use to control the OS.

How about you? Do you like Magic Trackpad? Customize the gestures yet?
