Create New Items in Outlook From Email, Contact or Task

You may want to learn a simple trick to send multiple emails at once. Or you may want to get better organized by creating directory rules and importing contacts from other services. When on vacation, you can set an automatic response and even include a calendar in it.

There are many more and it is difficult to list them all here. So you should consider doing a site search and you never know, you might find what you need most. We’ll make that easy too – just click this link (it’s a bookmarklet) and type Outlook on the dialog that appears.

Today we’ll show you how you can create new email, contacts, calendar items, or tasks by dragging and dropping items from one item to another in Outlook. For example, we’ll pull in an existing email to create a new contact, assign a calendar, and a task. Later you can try for others.

Drag & Drop Email

Create a new contact from an existing email

Open the MS Outlook interface and find an email from the sender with whom you want to create a new contact. Now, hold that email and drag and drop it in Contact tab on the left pane.

Contact letter

Immediately, a new contact window will open with the email address and name of the sender filled in. The notes for that contact will be replaced with the body of the email. You might consider editing a few fields and filling in the blanks. Simple enough, right?

Create a new calendar entry from an existing email

This is really useful when you want to create an assignment or schedule a meeting to follow up on email. So find the message and drag and drop it in Calendar navigation.

Immediately, you will see that the subject of the email fills up Subject line for the new item and its contents form the body.

Almanac

All you have to do is enter Location and put Start/End date and time. You can edit what you want to add meeting attendees to by clicking Invite attendees on the ribbon. Save it or send it. Is it faster than usual?

Create a new task from an existing email

Many times people or seniors send their emails and ask us to complete some task. There is always the possibility that we might forget and therefore we flag them so that they appear on the to-do list.

Flag Email

If you drag and drop that email instead, mission you will be able to create a full-fledged task and have options to set reminders, priority and other parameters. Doesn’t that help?
