Change Icons and Folders Appearance, Layout on Mac Desktop

Customize Mac desktop

We’ve all seen a classic Mac desktop: A mountain or space background filled with medium-sized blue folders. It doesn’t look bad at all, but I’m sure many of you wish you could

customize at least a few aspects

of that appearance.

Well, there are actually quite a few ways to do this. This time, we show you some quick and simple tips that you can do in just a few minutes that will completely change the look of your screen using its built-in options. Mac.

Let’s start:

Arrange and adjust the way items appear on your screen

The Show viewing options is a tool that allows you to easily customize the look and feel of your Mac’s screen to a great extent. To open it, right click on any blank part of your desktop and select Show viewing options.

Show viewing options panel

This will open the settings panel where you can adjust a variety of elements about the look and feel of your screen. Here’s what you can do with them:

Icon Size and Grid Spacing: The first slider, the one for Icon Size is pretty self-explanatory. Sliding it left or right will decrease or increase the size of your desktop icons respectively. Other sliders (grid distance) can be a bit harder to explain unless you actually use it: It allows you to adjust the space between icons on your desktop.

Using both of these sliders, you can have a desktop with large icons each far apart, or a desktop with small icons very close together.

Text Size and Position: A sequel to Show viewing options The control panel lets you choose the text size of icons on your Mac’s desktop, as well as choose whether it’s to the right or to the bottom of each icon or folder.

My suggestion: If you’re going to display more than just the name of the icon or folder (more on that in our next point), put the text on the right, as it gives the text a lot more. more space and everything looks better organized that way. If not, just leave the text at the bottom.

Additional item information: The last part on Show viewing options The control panel lets you choose if you want to see more item information about your folders or other elements around. Examples of this could be the amount of available storage on your hard drive, the number of items in a folder, etc.

Last but not least, you can also use Sorted by: option to choose how to arrange items on your screen.
