Best guns in Fortnite & weapon tier list for Chapter 5 Season 1

Every new season of Fortnite comes with fresh weapons and items to use, so for that reason, I’ve ranked all the best guns in the game right now with a handy tier list so you don’t confuse your Striker AR with your Nemesis AR.

Chapter 5 Season 1 also introduced mods which let you personalise weapons to suit your play style. So if you prefer a weapon that zooms in, you can add a scope, or if you prefer to get up close and personal, you can add extra ammo capacity.

Best weapons in Fortnite

Three of the best weapons you can find in Fortnite right now are the Hyper SMG, the Enforcer AR, and the Frenzy Auto Shotgun. I’d also recommend having a Reaper Sniper Rifle in your loadout for long-distance takedowns.

There’s no doubt there will be a little bit of personal taste here, especially depending on which range you’re in whilst scrapping. For example, in a close-range battle, some may opt for a fast-firing SMG whilst others prefer a powerful shotgun.

Having said that, some weapons simply are better than others when it comes to the amount of damage they can deal or how useful they are in specific situations. We’ve ranked them all from S-Tier (the best) to C-Tier (the worst) below.

The Hyper SMG has a reload time of 1.8s in its Legendary form and a magazine size of 30. This weapon will shred through enemies from close range. There’s also a Mythic version you can get from Valeria.Hyper SMG FortniteClick to enlarge
Enforcer AR

Legendary

The Enforcer AR has a slightly slower fire rate than the Striker, but it really packs a punch, dealing some serious damage. It has a magazine size of 25 and there are two Mythic versions of the gun from Montague and Diamond Heart. Enforcer AR in FortniteClick to enlarge
Frenzy Auto Shotgun

Common

Uncommon

Rare

Epic

Legendary

Right now, this is the best shotgun in the game due to its fast, automatic firing rate. If you find yourself very close up it can get you out of a jam. You also reload this gun all at once, which is unusual for a shotgun. It has a magazine size of 8. The Mythic variant can be found on Oscar at Lavish Lair.Frenzy Auto Shotgun in FortniteClick to enlarge

Striker AR

Common

Uncommon

Rare

Epic

Legendary

If you prefer a higher rate of fire, this is the AR for you, and it also boasts a magazine size of 25. The fire rate does come at the sacrifice of lower damage and is more of a closer-range AR. You can find the Mythic version on Nisha at Fencing Fields.Striker AR FortniteClick to enlarge
Ranger Pistol

Common

Uncommon

Rare

Epic

Legendary

It may say Pistol on the tin, but due to its high fire rate that is automatic, the Ranger Pistol is essentially an SMG. It has a small magazine of 15, but the reload speed is incredibly quick.Ranger Pistol FortniteClick to enlarge
Ballistic Shield Epic When looking at the key art for this season the Ballistic Shield plays a big part as the shiny new weapon of this season. It comes with a pistol boasting a magazine size of 15. What makes this weapon so good is whilst using it you can block out any damage – a great weapon in one-on-one battles.Ballistic Shield FortniteClick to enlarge
Reaper Sniper Rifle

Common

Uncommon

Rare

Epic

Legendary

A sniper rifle works well when trying to fight from a range, and although you can put sniper scopes on ARs now, it still doesn’t come close to a weapon like this. Right now the Reaper is the only Sniper Rifle available.Reaper Sniper Rifle FortniteClick to enlarge

Hammer Pump Shotgun

Common

Epic

Legendary

If you’re on the hunt for a high-damage shotgun, this will be a great option. The fire rate is quite slow comparatively as well as having a very slow reload speed with a magazine size of only 6. Peter Griffin’s Shotgun is the Mythic version of this one.Hammer Pump Shotgun FortniteClick to enlarge
Thunder Burst SMG

Common

Uncommon

Rare

Epic

Legendary

I am not a huge fan of burst weapons in Fortnite and that’s why the Thunder Burst SMG is so low down. Admittedly, it is still an SMG so can be very handy, but in comparison to other close-range options, it’s not as effective. The magazine size is 27, and the recoil is pretty heavy without mods.Thunder Burst SMG FortniteClick to enlarge
Nemesis AR

Epic

Legendary

The Striker AR has a higher rate of fire and the Enforcer does more damage, but if you want an easy-to-use weapon, the Nemesis AR is still a decent option.Nemesis AR FortniteClick to enlarge

That’s all there is to know about the best weapons to use in Fortnite right now!

More weapons will likely be released or unvaulted as the season progresses, so with that in mind, we’ll continue to keep this page updated as changes are made or if an update tweaks the guns.
